Iranian ambassador to Iraq Īrağ Masğedī says that Iran welcomes, supports and encourages any step, which improves the cooperation and rapprochement ties between Iraq, the Arab states, and the neighboring states.
Iranian ambassador to Iraq Īrağ Masğedī says that his country supports the mediation of Baghdad to bring Tehran closer to the countries with which some challenges happened resulting in the decline of relations and that the Iraqi authorities were informed about that.
In a special interview with the Islamic Republic’s News Agency (IRNA) Masğedī described the relations between Iran and Iraq as that they are good and developing in several cultural and economic aspects.
He also confirmed the support of Iran to Iraq in improving its relations with the Arabic world, especially concerning the mediation by Baghdad to end the turmoil between the states of the region. Thus he underlined that Iran welcomes, supports, and encourages any step to improve the relations of cooperation and rapprochement between Iraq, the Arab states, and the neighboring states.
This comes after the French Press Agency reported on Iraqi officials that the Iranian and the Saudi delegations have met in Baghdad at the beginning of this month.
At the same time, an Iraqi government official confirmed that the talks were positive, pointing out that the Saudi delegation was led by the director of intelligence Hālid ibn ‘Alī al-Ḥamīdān. On the other hand, the Iranian delegation was made up of officials appointed to the negotiations by the Secretary-General of the Supreme National Security Council ‘Alī Šamhānī.
About that the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced yesterday that Tehran always welcomes the dialogue with Saudi Arabia and views that this goes by the interest of the countries’ people, the peace, and the regional stability. However, Iranian sources talking to al-Mayadeen commented on what was published by the British Financial Times newspaper, which said that “any talks between Iranian and Saudi political officials haven’t taken place”.
Continued Iranian export of electricity and natural gas to Iraq
The Iranian ambassador also pointed out that his country will continue exporting natural gas and electricity to Iraq “because this contributes to easing the problems of the Iraqi people”. He added that it is expected from the Iraqi officials to improve and speed up the mechanism to settle the Iranian payments.
About paying the money for the Iranian exports to Iraq Masğedī cited the Iraqi Finance Ministry that this matter was studied during the last visit by Iranian Minister of Cooperation, Work and Social Welfare Moḥammad Šarī‘atmadārī to Baghdad and the payments shall be transferred to Iran according to the scheduled timetable.
The presence of the American troops is not in the interest of Iraq, or the region
On the other hand, the Iranian ambassador in Baghdad believed that the presence of the American troops in Iraq is not within the interests of Iraq, or the region, explaining that the forces of Iraq and the regional states are able to secure their security on their own.
About the third round of strategic talks between Baghdad and Washington Īrağ Masğedī added that it is confirmed that the decision by the Iraqi House of Representatives about the withdrawal of the American forces from Iraq is clear and that Iran believes that the presence of the American forces and bases in Iraq and in the region is not within the interests of the region’s peoples.
At the same time, Masğedī pointed out the matter of assassinating the two commanders, Qāsem Soleymānī and Abū Mahdī al-Muhandis is still followed up by Iran and Iraq on legal, political, and international dimensions.
About the visit by Iraqi National Security Advisor Qāsim al-A‘rağī to Tehran in recent days he said that in addition to the talks about regional, Iraqi and bilateral cooperation matters, apart from the security cooperation between the two countries, the matter of strategic talks between Baghdad and Washington was also put forward.

قال السفير الإيراني في العراق إيرج مسجدي، إن بلاده تدعم وساطة بغداد لتقريب طهران مع الدول التي حدثت معها بعض التحديات ما أدى الى فتور في العلاقات، وتم إبلاغ السلطات العراقية بهذا الموضوع
وفي مقابلة خاصة مع وكالة الجمهورية الإسلامية للأنباء (إرنا)، وصف مسجدي العلاقات بين إيران والعراق بأنها جيدة وتتطور في مختلف الأبعاد الثقافية والاقتصادية
كما أكّد دعم إيران للعراق في تطوير علاقاته مع العالم العربي، خاصة فيما يتعلق بوساطة بغداد لإزالة التوتر بين دول المنطقة، مشدداً على أن إيران ترحب وتدعم وتشجع أي تحرك يصب في تطوير علاقات التعاون والتقارب بين العراق والدول العربية ودول الجوار
يأتي ذلك بعدما نقلت وكالة الصحافة الفرنسية عن مسؤولين عراقيين أن وفدين من إيران والسعودية التقيا في بغداد مطلع الشهر الحالي
هذا وأكد مسؤول حكومي عراقي أن المحادثات كانت إيجابيةً، مشيراً إلى أن الوفد السعودي كان برئاسة رئيس الاستخبارات خالد بن علي الحميدان، فيما ضم الوفد الإيراني مسؤولين كلّفهم التفاوض الأمين العام للمجلس الأعلى للأمن القوميّ علي شمخاني
وفيما أعلنت وزارة الخارجية الإيرانية أمس أن طهران ترحب بالحوار مع السعودية دوماً، وترى بأن ذلك يصب في مصلحة شعبي البلدين والسلام والاستقرار الإقليمي، إلا أن مصادر إيرانية علقت في حديث للميادين على ما ورد في صحيفة “فاينانشال تايمز” البريطانية، وقالت إن “أي محادثات بين مسؤولين سياسيين إيرانيين وسعوديين لم تتم
استمرار صادرات إيران من الكهرباء والغاز إلى العراق
كما أشار السفير الإيراني إلى أن بلاده ستواصل تصدير الغاز والكهرباء إلى العراق “لأن هذا يساهم في تخفيف المشاكل عن الشعب العراقي”، مضيفاً أن المنتظر من المسؤولين العراقيين تحسين وتسريع آليات تسديد الأموال الإيرانية
وفيما يتعلق بدفع أموال الصادرات الإيرانية إلى العراق، نقل مسجدي عن وزير المالية العراقي، أن هذا الموضوع بحث خلال الزيارة الأخيرة التي قام بها وزير التعاون والعمل والرفاه الاجتماعي الإيراني إلى بغداد محمد شريعتمداري، وستحول الأموال إلى إيران طبق جدول زمني محدد
وجود القوات الأميركية ليس في مصلحة العراق والمنطقة
من جهة ثانية، اعتبر السفير الإيراني في بغداد، أن وجود القوات الأميركية في العراق لا يصب في مصلحة العراق والمنطقة، موضحاً أن قوات العراق ودول المنطقة قادرة لوحدها على تأمين أمنها
وبشأن الجولة الثالثة من المحادثات الاستراتيجية بين بغداد وواشنطن، أضاف إيرج مسجدي، أن المؤكد أن قرار مجلس النواب العراقي بشأن انسحاب القوات الأميركية من العراق واضح، وأن إيران تعتقد أن وجود القوات والقواعد الأميركية في العراق والمنطقة، لا يصب في مصلحة شعوب المنطقة
بالتزامن، أشار مسجدي إلى أن ملف اغتيال القائدين قاسم سليماني وأبو مهدي المهندس تتم متابعته من قبل ايران والعراق علي المستويات القضائية والسياسية والدولية
وفي إشارة إلى زيارة مستشار الأمن الوطني العراقي قاسم الأعرجي لطهران في الأيام الأخيرة، قال إنه بالإضافة إلى مناقشة القضايا الإقليمية والعراقية والعلاقات الثنائية، فضلاً عن التنسيق الأمني بين البلدين، فإن موضوع المحادثات الاستراتيجية بين بغداد وواشنطن كان مطروحا ايضا
