Morocco recalled its ambassador from Tunisia “for immediate consultation” because its president, Qays Sa‘īd received the leader of the Polisario Front Ibrāhīm Ġālī, which front demands independence for Western Sahara from Morocco.
The statement issued by the Moroccan Foreign Ministry said that “Tunisia, to the contrary of Japan’s suggestions, decided to breach the process of returning to the generally applied rules and invited separatist entity (Polisario Front) to participate the Tokyo International Conference on development in Africa on its eight session, the Ticad 8”.
The statement held that “confronting this enemy and harmful stance towards the brotherly relations that both countries have always upheld Morocco decided not to attend the conference and immediately recall the Moroccan ambassador”.
On Friday the Tunisian President received Secretary-General of the Polisario Front Ibrāhīm Ġālī at the Carthage airport, who came to participate in the Tokyo International Conference on development in Africa.
The Ticad conference counts to be an open and comprehensive forum for all states of Africa and its development partners, also including the international and African organizations, the donor states, some Asian countries, the private sector and civil society organizations which work on the field of development in Africa.
It should be pointed out that the Polisario Front demanded a national referendum to be held about self determination for Western Sahara, as the United Nations decreed in 1991 this referendum to be held. At that year Morocco and the Polisario singed a ceasefire agreement between themselves.
As for Morocco, which controls roughly 80% of the vast Sahara region rich in phosphate and maritime resources, proposes granting autonomy under its sovereignty.

المغرب يستدعي سفيره في تونس “للتشاور على الفور”، بسبب استقبال رئيسها، قيس سعيّد، زعيمَ جبهة “البوليساريو”، إبراهيم غالي.
استدعى المغرب سفيره في تونس “للتشاور على الفور”، بسبب استقبال رئيسها، قيس سعيّد، زعيمَ جبهة “البوليساريو”، إبراهيم غالي، وهي الجبهة التي تطالب باستقلال الصحراء الغربية عن المغرب.
وقال بيان صادر عن وزارة الخارجية المغربية إنّ “تونس قررت، خلافاً لنصيحة اليابان، وفي انتهاك لعملية الإعداد للقواعد المعمول بها، دعوة الكيان الانفصالي (جبهة البوليساريو) إلى حضور مؤتمر طوكيو الدولي للتنمية في أفريقيا، في نسخته الثامنة، تيكاد 8”.
وجاء في البيان أنه “في مواجهة هذا الموقف العدائي والضارّ تجاه العلاقات الأخوية التي حافظت عليها الدولتان دائماً، قرر المغرب عدم حضور المؤتمر، واستدعاء السفير المغربي على الفور”.
واستقبل الرئيس التونسي، اليوم الجمعة، في مطار قرطاج، الأمين العام لجبهة “البوليساريو”، إبراهيم غالي، الذي جاء للمشاركة في مؤتمر طوكيو الدولي للتنمية في أفريقيا.
وتُعَدّ قمة “تيكاد” منتدى مفتوحاً وشاملاً يجمع كل البلدان الأفريقية وشركاء التنمية، بما في ذلك المنظمات الدولية والإقليمية والبلدان المانحة والدول الآسيوية والقطاع الخاص ومنظمات المجتمع المدني، والتي تعمل في مجال التنمية في أفريقيا.
يُشار إلى أنّ جبهة “البوليساريو” طالبت بإجراء استفتاء بشأن تقرير مصير الصحراء الغربيةـ، بينما أقرّت الأمم المتّحدة هذا الاستفتاء في عام 1991، عندما وقّع المغرب والجبهة اتفاقاً لوقف إطلاق النار بينهما.
أمّا المغرب، الذي يسيطر على ما يقارب 80% من المنطقة الصحراوية الشاسعة والغنية بالفوسفات والموارد البحرية، فيقترح منحها حكماً ذاتياً تحت سيادته
