Jordanian King ‘Abd Allah II. confirms that founding an “Arab NATO” has not been studied recently and talks about a need for an Arab-founded operational defense organization.
Jordanian King ‘Abd Allah II. confirmed that the subject of an “Arab NATO” has not been studied recently, despite the need for an Arab-founded operational defense organization, as the matter requires “discussions, cooperation and long work with the Arab countries”.
In an interview with the Jordanian ar-Ra’y newspaper issued on Sunday about the “Arab NATO”, the king said: “we are talking about the need for an Arab founded operational defense organization, and that requires negotiations, cooperation, and long work with our brothers or order for the principals and the aims to be clear”.
He added: “Let me remind you that this suggestion is a basic principle upon which the Arab League was founded, even though the matter of an alliance is not studied currently”.
He continued: “We have a look today on the source of threats we are all facing we find that it is common and needs Arab cooperation to respond to it. Especially to the threats of recurring dangers of terrorism and the smuggling networks for drugs and weapons”.
The Jordanian monarch elaborated saying that “Jordan has always been and will always be with its Arab nation and for its interests and causes”. Thus pointing out that “Jordan in the front lines of participation confronting the terrorist and security threats targeting some Arab states and their peoples”.
On 24 June the Jordanian monarch said in an interview with the American CNBC channel that he “will support forming a military alliance in the Middle East following the NATO”, and that “it shall be done with the states, which have the same thinking”. Adding: “I will be amongst the firsts who will support setting up a NATO in the Middle East”.
He pointed out that “Jordan is working on activities with NATO and counts itself to be a partner of it after it fought shoulder to shoulder along the NATO forces for decades”

الملك الأردني عبد الله الثاني يؤكد أنّ إنشاء “الناتو العربي” لم يُبحث في الوقت الراهن، ويتحدث عن حاجة إلى منظومة عمل دفاعي مؤسسي عرب
أكّد الملك الأردني عبد الله الثاني أنّ موضوع “الناتو العربي” لا يُبحث في الوقت الراهن، على الرغم من الحاجة إلى منظومة عمل دفاعي مؤسسي عربي إذ يتطلب الأمر “تشاوراً وتنسيقاً وعملاً طويلاً مع الدول العربية”.
وفي حوار مع صحيفة “الرأي” الأردنية، نُشر اليوم الأحد، حول “الناتو العربي”، قال الملك: “نحن نتحدّث عن الحاجة إلى منظومة عمل دفاعي مؤسسي عربي، وهذا يتطلب تشاوراً وتنسيقاً وعملاً طويلاً مع الأشقاء، بحيث تكون المنطلقات والأهداف واضحة”.
وأضاف: “دعني أذكّر بأنّ هذا الطرح جزء أساسي من المبادئ التي قامت عليها جامعة الدول العربية، ومع ذلك فإنّ موضوع الحلف لا يُبحث حالياً”.
وتابع: “إذا نظرنا، اليوم، إلى مصادر التهديد التي تواجهنا جميعاً، فسنجدها مشتركة، وتتطلب تعاوناً عربياً يستجيب لها، خصوصاً مخاطر الإرهاب المتجدّدة، وشبكات التهريب المنظمة للمخدّرات والأسلحة”.
وأوضح العاهل الأردني قائلاً إنّ “الأردن لم يكن يوماً، ولن يكون أبداً، إلا مع حلف أمته العربية ومصالحها وقضاياها”، لافتاً إلى أنّ “الأردن كان في صدارة المشاركين في مواجهة تهديدات إرهابية وأمنية استهدفت بعض الدول عربية وشعوبها”.
وكان الملك الأردني قد قال، في 24 حزيران/يونيو الفائت، في مقابلة مع قناة “سي أن بي سي” الأميركية، إنّه “سيدعم تشكيل تحالف عسكري في الشرق الأوسط على غرار حلف شمال الأطلسي”، على أن “يكون ذلك مع الدول التي لديها التفكير نفسه”، مضيفاً: “سأكون من أوائل الذين يؤيّدون إنشاء ناتو في الشرق الأوسط”.
وأشار إلى أنّ “الأردن يعمل بنشاط مع حلف شمال الأطلسي، ويعدّ نفسه شريكاً فيه، بعد أن قاتل كتفاً إلى كتف مع قوات الناتو عقوداً من الزمن
