The French presidential office announced on Wednesday that Emmanuel Macron on Thursday night will welcome Saudi Crown Prince Muḥammad ibn Salmān for a “work dinner” in the Elyseé Palace.
This visit comes after the Jidda Summit was held in the presence of American President Joe Biden, and after the Western states took a distance from Ibn Salmān following the murder of the critical Saudi journalist Ğamāl Hāšuqğī in 2018 in the consulate of his country in Istanbul.
Ibn Salmān visited Greece on Tuesday and Wednesday to sign agreements about sea trade, energy, defense technology, waste management, and culture.
Also, the war in Ukraine and the rise in energy prices in the Western states led them to get closer to Saudi Arabia, the biggest oil producer in the world, which all try to convince it to increase its production and put the markets at ease.
Last Macron also welcomed in Paris the new President of the State of the United Arab Emirates Muḥammad ibn Zāyid Āl Nahyān. On that occasion, the two states signed a “comprehensive strategic partnership for cooperation in the field of energy”.

أعلنت الرئاسة الفرنسية، اليوم الأربعاء، أنّ إيمانويل ماكرون سيستقبل مساء الخميس ولي العهد السعودي، الأمير محمد بن سلمان، على “عشاء عمل”، في قصر الإليزيه.
تأتي هذه الزيارة عقب عقد قمة جدة بحضور الرئيس الأميركي جو بايدن، بعد أن أخذت الدول الغربية مسافة من بن سلمان، إثر مقتل الصحافي السعودي الناقد جمال خاشقجي في 2018 في قنصلية بلاده في إسطنبول.
وزار ابن سلمان اليونان، الثلاثاء والأربعاء، لتوقيع اتفاقيات حول النقل البحري والطاقة وتكنولوجيا الدفاع وإدارة النفايات والثقافة.
كما دفعت الحرب في أوكرانيا وارتفاع أسعار الطاقة الدول الغربية إلى التقرب من السعودية، أكبر مصدر للنفط في العالم، والتي تحاول إقناعها بزيادة الإنتاج لتهدئة الأسواق.
كما استقبل ماكرون، الأسبوع الماضي، في باريس الرئيس الجديد لدولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة محمد بن زايد آل نهيان. ولهذه المناسبة، وقع البلدان “اتفاق شراكة استراتيجية شاملة للتعاون في مجال الطاقة
