The official spokesman of the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announces that negotiations are being held in order to increase the gas import from Iran, as Iraq needs 55 million cubic meters of gas in the winter.
The official spokesman of the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity Aḥmad Mūsā announced that negotiations are being held to increase the import of gas from Iran, while at the same time the Iraqi Electricity Ministry settles all gas payments.
Mūsā says that “the volume of the Iraqi import of the Iranian gas presently reaches daily 20 million cubic meters”. Thus points out that “this volume does not cover the needs of the county, especially since there are power plants with limited output due to the gas shortage”.
The Iraqi official added that “there are regular negotiations, meetings and visit with the Iranian side and a high level of cooperation in order to increase the gas import in preparation for the winter output system and raising the output ratios”. Thus pointing that “the peak of the winter consumption might need 55 million cubic meters of gas to cover the operational hours”.
Mūsā also explained that “a delegation will visit Iran to raise the gas quotas and to fully exploit the signed contracts, especially after Iraq fully covered expenses with the Iranian sides”.
He continued: “There are no debts to the Iranian side about the gas import revenues”. Thus pointing out that “not holding a balance has massively affected the works of the Ministry and its need to smoothly pay the gas import expenses for the last months of the year”.
It should be pointed out that Tehran and Baghdad in May reached an agreement to supply Iraq with daily 50 million cubic meters of gas during the four months of the summer while the debts to Tehran with a value of $1,6 billion are being settled.

أعلن المتحدث باسم وزارة الكهرباء العراقية أحمد موسى، إجراء مفاوضات لزيادة استيراد الغاز من إيران، تزامناً مع تسديد وزارة الكهرباء العراقية كامل مستحقات الغاز
وقال موسى إنّ “حجم استيراد العراق من الغاز الإيراني، يبلغ في الوقت الحاضر 20 مليون متر مكعب يومياً”، مشيراً إلى أنّ “هذا الحجم لا يسد حاجة البلد، خاصة وأنّ هناك بعض الوحدات التوليدية محددة أحمالها بسبب نقص الغاز
وأضاف المسؤول العراقي، أنّ “هناك مفاوضات واجتماعات وزيارات دورية مع الجانب الإيراني وبتنسيق عالٍ من أجل زيادة استيراد الغاز، استعداداً لمنظومة الإحمال الشتوية ورفع معدلات الإنتاج”، لافتاً إلى أنّ “ذروة الاحمال الشتوية قد تصل إلى 55 مليون متر مكعب من الغاز لتغطية ساعات التجهيز
كما أوضح موسى أنّ “وفداً سيزور إيران لرفع معدلات الغاز والالتزام التام بفقرات العقد المبرم، خاصة بعد سداد العراق كامل المستحقات مع الجانب الإيراني
وتابع: “لا توجد أي ديون للجانب الإيراني بشأن مستحقات الغاز المورد”، لافتاً إلى أنّ “عدم إقرار الموازنة أثّر بشكل كبير في عمل الوزارة وحاجتها إلى سيولة لقاء دفع مستحقات الغاز المورد للأشهر المتبقية من السنة
يشار إلى أن طهران وبغداد توصلتا، في أيار/مايو الماضي، إلى اتفاق على تزويد العراق بخمسين مليون متر مكعب من الغاز يومياً خلال أشهر الصيف الأربعة، وتسديد ديون لطهران بـقيمة 1,6 مليار دولار
