The Iranian Foreign Ministry welcomed the change in the Saudi tone towards Iran, pointing out the possibility to enter a new chapter of constructive cooperation with it.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry pointed out that its country is “a pioneer in regional cooperation by submitting proposals and plans for a dialogue and cooperation in the Gulf”.
This comes upon what Saudi Crown Prince Muḥammad ibn Salmān said on Wednesday that the kingdom aspires to set up good and distinguished relations with Iran, considering it a neighboring country.
During a televised interview broadcasted by the Said media, Ibn Salmān pointed out that there are difficulties between the two countries, while Saudi Arabia works on solving them with its partners, expressing his hope to overcome all the difficulties.
From his own side Deputy Commander of the Jerusalem Forces in the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, Rostem Qāsemī also said yesterday during a meeting with al-Mayadeen in the program called “Game of Nations” that “There is the Holy Mecca in Saudi Arabia, which is the compass for the Muslims. We desire to have relations with it”. Thus pointing out that “There are 80 million people in Iran and Saudi Arabia can have interests with it, including in the field of energy”.
According to him: “The relation between us and Saudi Arabia is a strategic relation. That is how the Iranian officials see that”. Saying that the good relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia are within the interest of both peoples”.
In the same context, an Iraqi political source to the Russian “Sputnik” confirmed that Iranian Foreign Minister Moḥammad Ğawād Ẓarīf during his meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Muṣṭafā al-Kāẓimī on his trip to Baghdad last Monday discussed the topic of Iraqi mediation between Iran and Saudi Arabia. It was confirmed that Iraq is currently trying to “play a mediating role” between the country.
Before that, the Irani ambassador to Iraq Īrağ Masğedī a week ago said that his country supports the mediation by Baghdad to bring Tehran closer to the countries, with which some challenges leading up to poor relations. About that the Iraqi authorities were notified.

يأتي ذلك بناء على ما قاله ولي العهد السعودي محمد بن سلمان الأربعاء، إن المملكة تطمح إلى إقامة علاقة جيدة ومميزة مع إيران باعتبارها دولة جارة
وخلال مقابلة بثتها وسائل الإعلام السعودية، أشار ابن سلمان إلى وجود إشكاليات بين البلدين تعمل السعودية على حلها مع شركائها، معرباً عن أمله في تجاوز كل الإشكاليات
من جانبه، قال معاون قائد قوة القدس في حرس الثورة الإيرانية، رستم قاسمي، يوم أمس أيضاً، خلال لقائه مع الميادين ضمن برنامج “لعبة الأمم” إن “في السعودية مكة المكرمة وهي قبلة المسلمين ونحن نرغب في أن يكون هناك علاقات معها”، مشيراً إلى أن “في إيران 80 مليون نسمة ويمكن للسعودية أن يكون لديها مصالح معنا ولا سيما في مجال الطاقة
ووفقاً له، فإن “العلاقة بيننا وبين السعودية علاقة استراتيجية وهذا ما يراه المسؤولون الإيرانيون”، قائلاً إن العلاقات الحسنة بين إيران والسعودية ستصب في مصلحة الشعبين
وفي السياق نفسه، أكد مصدر سياسي عراقي لوكالة “سبوتنيك” الروسية، أن وزير الخارجية الإيراني محمد جواد ظريف، ناقش خلال لقائه مع رئيس الحكومة العراقية مصطفى الكاظمي، خلال زيارته إلى بغداد الإثنين الماضي، موضوع وساطة العراق بين إيران والسعودية، مؤكداً أن العراق تحول حالياً لـ”لعب دور الوسيط” بين البلدين
سبق ذلك ما قاله السفير الإيراني لدى العراق إيرج مسجدي، قبل أسبوع إن بلاده تدعم وساطة بغداد لتقريب طهران مع الدول التي حدثت معها بعض التحديات ما أدى الى فتور في العلاقات، وتم إبلاغ السلطات العراقية بهذا الموضوع
