Former Lebanese Prime Minister Ḥassān Diyāb confirms the importance of cooperation between Lebanon and Syria and the benefit of that for both countries, while also points out that his government was facing a blockade both regionally and internationally.
Former Lebanese Prime Minister Ḥassān Diyāb answering a question to al-Mayadeen about his evaluation of the developments in the relations between Syrian and Lebanon said that “the borders, the history and the common relations with Syria cannot be denied by anyone. Syria is Lebanons ground portal to the brotherly Arab world”.
He added: “I believe that the good relations with Syria return with a great benefit for both countries. Upon this logic I have recently sent a ministerial delegation to study the matter of bringing natural gas and electricity from Egypt and Jordan to Lebanon via Syria”.
Diyāb expressed his wish “to see that step to be an initiative towards mending any rifts in the relations with Syria and to return the matters to their natural course” between the two countries.
About what his government achieved on the fields of economic reform and legal procedures concerning the Lebanese Bank Diyāb explained that his government “from day one raised the slogan of reform and accounting corruption. From day one all those not wishing for reform fought against this government and obstacle came up blockading our government both regionally and internationally”.
He added “we put up pressure to achieve decisions in the matter of legal proceedings and their enactment and also laid down a comprehensive financial and economic reform plan. We started constructive negotiations with the IMF and all these steps met obstacles from certain sides, which are known”.
It should be mentioned that the government of Ḥassān Diyāb was performing its duties as acting government for nearly a year before resigning in August 2020 following the explosion of Beirut port and the collapse of the agreement between the political groups about the formation of the government.
Prime Minister Nağīb Mīqātī managed to form a government last week and the decision was taken to announce all the ministries on Thursday, which shall be discussed in the Lebanese parliament next week.
دياب للميادين: العلاقات الجيدة بسوريا تعود بفائدة كبيرة على لبنان

رئيس الحكومة اللبنانية السابق حسان دياب يؤكّد أهمية التعاون بين لبنان وسوريا، وفائدة ذلك للبلدين، ويشير إلى أنّ حكومته واجهت حصاراً، إقليمياً ودولياً.
قال رئيس الحكومة اللبنانية السابق، حسان دياب، رداً على سؤال الميادين بشأن تقييمه لتطوّر العلاقات بين لبنان وسوريا، إنّ “الحدود والتاريخ والعلاقات المشتركة بسوريا لا يمكن لأحد أن ينكرها. وسوريا هي منفذ لبنان البري إلى العالم العربي الشقيق”.
وأضاف “أؤمن بأن العلاقات الجيدة بسوريا تعود بفائدة كبيرة على البلدين. ومن هذا المنطلق، قمت بإرسال الوفد الوزاري مؤخَّراً للتباحث في شأن موضوع استقدام الغاز والكهرباء من مصر والأردن عبر سوريا إلى لبنان”.
وأعرب دياب عن تمنياته أن “تكون هذه الخطوة بادرة نحو إعادة رأب أي صدع في العلاقة بسوريا، وعودة الأمور إلى مجراها الطبيعي” بين البلدين.
وبخصوص ما أنجزته حكومته على صعيدَي الإصلاح الاقتصادي والتدقيق الجنائي في حسابات مصرف لبنان، أوضح دياب أنّ حكومته “منذ اليوم الاول، رفعت شعار الاصلاح ومحاسبة الفساد. ومنذ اليوم الأول، كل من لم يُرد الاصلاح حارب هذه الحكومة، وأتت العراقيل في ظل حصار على حكومتنا، إقليمياً ودولياً”.
وأضاف “قمنا بالضغط من أجل إقرار موضوع التدقيق الجنائي وتطبيقه، ووضعنا خطة إصلاح شاملة مالياً واقتصادياً، وبدأنا مفاوضات بنّاءة مع صندوق النقد الدولي، وكل هذه الخطوات قابلتها عراقيل من بعض الجهات، وهي معروفة”.
يُذكَر أن حكومة دياب مارست مُهمّاتها في تصريف الأعمال نحوَ عام، بعد استقالتها، في آب/أغسطس 2020، في إثر انفجار مرفأ بيروت، وتعذُّر الاتفاق على تشكيلة حكومية بين الأطراف السياسية.
وتمكّن الرئيس نجيب ميقاتي من تشكيل حكومة، الأسبوع الماضي، وجرى إقرار بيانها الوزاري بالإجماع، اليوم الخميس، على أن يُناقَش في البرلمان اللبناني الأسبوع المقبل.
