The American army performs an areal drop in rural Idlib and the correspondent of al-Mayadeen confirms that the operation failed and civilian victims fell in result of it. The Pentagon denies the matter.
Correspondent of al-Mayadeen citing local sources reports that 4 helicopters of the international coalition performed an areal drop in the vicinity of the town of Aṭma in Northern Idlib, which ended with the fall of civilian victims, including women and children.
The sources pointed out that “the American soldiers via loudspeakers demanded those present in a house to go out, where a fierce clash broke out lasting for more than half an hour, during which a leading personality wanted by the Americans managed to get away”.
The sources made it clear that “after the coalition soldiers failed in their duty, which lasted for more than half an hour set their helicopters to shell two houses and demolish them completely while their residents were inside, which led to the fall of civilian victims”.
Reports contradict each other about the targeted leading personality, who was either a leading member in the “Ḥurrās ad-Dīn [Guardians of the faith]” organization Abū Ḥusām al-Brīṭānī, or two leading members in Dā‘iš Abū ‘Ubayd al-‘Irāqī and ‘Umar Qardiš Turkī.
Sources of the armed men via their social media platforms confirmed that “all victims, who fell in the area of the arial strike are civilians and there no death among their members or leader”.
Reuters cited the so called “the Syrian Civil Defense” saying “at least 13 people, among them 6 children died in the clashes after the American drop”.
On his behalf the spokesman of the American Defense Department John Kirby said that: “American special forces troops under the leadership of the Central Command performed a anti-terrorist mission in Northwestern Syria on Thursday”. Also confirming: “The mission succeeded and no American victims fell”.
A number of American soldiers fell in the drop operation
At the same time the Russian “Sputnik” news agency reported that a number of elite soldiers in the American army got wounded during the clashes breaking out immediately after the areal drop.
It explained that “the clashes between the American forces and the armed men controlling the area lasted for hours around the border region of Aṭma, the most northwestern point of Syria”.
Sputnik also pointed out that the target in the areal drop operation is one of the two leading members of the Dā‘iš terrorist organization called Abū ‘Ubayd, who took shelter in the house of the leading member of the Ḥurrās ad-Dīn organization called Abū Ḥusām al-Brīṭānī.
Also the New York Times newspaper reported that one of the helicopters during the areal drop operation crashed in Northwest Syria.
At the same time the oppositional Syrian Observatory said that “the areas drop in the vicinity of Aṭma is one of the biggest ones by the Coalition since the operation, which was performed by the American special forces in Idlib which led to the killing of Dā‘iš leader Abū Bakr al-Baġdādī on 27 October 2019”

الجيش الأميركي ينفّذ إنزالاً في ريف إدلب، ومراسلة الميادين تؤكد فشل العملية وسقوط ضحايا مدنيين على إثرها، فيما ينفي البنتاغون الأمر
أفادت مراسلة الميادين نقلاً عن مصادر محلية، بتنفيذ 4 طائرات مروحية تابعة للتحالف الدولي، عملية إنزال قرب بلدة أطمة شمال إدلب، انتهت بسقوط ضحايا مدنيين بينهم نساء وأطفال.
وأشارت المصادر إلى أن “الجنود الأميركيين طالبوا عبر مكبرات الصوت الموجودين ضمن أحد المنازل الخروج منها، حيث دارت اشتباكات عنيفة استمرت أكثر من نصف ساعة، نجح خلالها هروب الشخصية القيادية التي يلاحقها الأميركيون”.
وبينت المصادر أن “جنود التحالف بعد فشل مهمتهم التي استمرت أكثر من نصف ساعة، قامت مروحياتهم باستهداف منزلين وتدميرهما فوق ساكينهما بشكل كامل ما أدّى إلى سقوط ضحايا مدنيين”.
وتضاربت الأنباء حول الشخصية القيادية المستهدفة، بين قيادي بارز في تنظيم “حراس الدين” أبو حسام البريطاني أو القياديين في تنظيم “داعش” أبو عبيدة العراقي وعمر قرديش تركي.
وأكدت مصادر المسلحين عبر منصاتها على مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي، أن “كل الضحايا الذي سقطوا في منطقة الاستهداف الجوي هم مدنيين ولا يوجد بينهم جثة أي قيادي”.
ونقلت رويترز عن “الدفاع المدني السوري”، “مقتل 13 على الأقل بينهم 6 أطفال باشتباكات بعد الانزال الأميركي”.
من جهته، قال متحدث باسم وزارة الدفاع الأميركية، جون كيربي، إن “قوات العمليات الخاصة الأميركية تحت إدارة القيادة المركزية نفّذت مهمة لمكافحة الإرهاب في شمال غرب سوريا اليوم الخميس”، مؤكداً “نجاح المهمة، وعدم سقوط ضحايا أميركيين”.
إصابة عدد من الجنود الأميركيين في عملية الإنزال
في الوقت نفسه، أفادت وكالة “سبوتنيك” الروسية إن عدداً من جنود النخبة في الجيش الأميركي أصيبوا خلال اشتباكات اندلعت فور تنفيذهم الإنزال الجوي.
وأوضحت أن “الاشتباكات بين القوة الأميركية ومسلّحين يسيطرون على المنطقة استمرت لساعات في محيط منطقة أطمة الحدودية، أقصى شمال غرب سوريا”.
كما أشارت “سبوتنيك” إلى أن المستهدف بعملية الإنزال هو أحد قياديي تنظيم داعش الإرهابي، ويُدعى أبو عبيدة، وقد قام بالاحتماء داخل منزل القيادي في تنظيم حراس الدين أبو حسام البريطاني.
هذا وأفادت صحيفة “نيويورك تايمز”، بتحطم إحدى الطائرات الأميركية خلال عملية الانزال الجوي في شمال غرب سوريا.
بالتزامن، قال المرصد السوري المعارض إن “عملية الإنزال قرب أطمة هي الأكبر للتحالف منذ العملية التي نفّذتها القوات الخاصة الأميركية في إدلب، وأدّت الى مقتل زعيم داعش أبو بكر البغدادي في الـ 27 من تشرين الأول/أكتوبر 2019
