President of the Iraqi State of Law Coalition Nūrī al-Mālikī met with American envoy to Syria Tom Barrak and the underlined for him the need for respecting the sovereignty of Iraq and the choices of its people, while the continued contacts and coordination between the two sides have been confirmed in the mutually relevant matters.

On his behalf, Barrak confirmed the importance of the role Iraq plays in the path of solving the problems in the region, to mitigate the level of conflict, to support the dialogue and to combat terrorism.

This meeting came shortly after the candidacy of al-Mālikī to the post of Prime Minister and the American refusal for this candidacy, which was expressed by American President Donald Trump.

من جهته، أكّد براك أهمية الدور الذي يلعبه العراق في مسار حل مشاكل المنطقة، وتخفيف. حدة الصراع ودعم الحوار ومحاربة الإرهاب.

ويأتي هذا اللقاء بُعيد ترشيح المالكي لمنصب رئيس الحكومة، والرفض الأميركي. لهذا الترشيح والذي عبّر عنه الرئيس دونالد ترامب
