Shortly before leaving to Washington Iraqi Prime Minister Muṣṭafā al-Kāẓimī says that Iraq is not Afghanistan and that the American withdrawal from Iraq is not similar to the withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Iraqi Prime Minister Muṣṭafā al-Kāẓimī says on the eve of his departure to Washington that “Iraq and the United States put down a roadmap on negotiations within the special work group about Iraq during the last year about the nature of relations between the two countries after the American withdrawal”.
During his interview with the American “Associated Press” agency al-Kāẓimī said that “the Iraqi security forces and the army are capable of protecting the security of the country and keep confronting the pockets of Dā‘iš”.
He also confirmed that his country is not in need anymore of American fighting forces to confront the “Dā‘iš” organization, but “the format time schedule to rearrange their presence will rely on the results of the negotiations with the American officials next week”.
Al-Kāẓimī said that “Iraq is not Afghanistan and that the American withdrawal from Iraq is not similar to the withdrawal from Afghanistan”. Thus confirming that Iraq is open to all states concerned about the political stability of the region”.
At the top of the governmental delegation head of the Iraqi Ministerial Council Muṣṭafā al-Kāẓimī today, on Sunday is heading to the United States of America for an official visit lasting for several days to study the Iraqi-American relations in various fields and bilateral matters with common interests.
Shortly before his leave al-Kāẓimī said that “This visit comes within the framework of Iraqi efforts to consolidate the trusted relations with the United States of America built on the principles of mutual respect and bilateral cooperation on various fields. It is also to lead long efforts of listed works during the strategic meetings to organize the security relations between the two countries built on the foundations of Iraqi national interests”.
At the same time American sources don’t exclude the possible that Washington will preserve its military presence in Iraq for the present state. The “New York Times” newspaper based on sources within the American Defense Department and the White House reported the possibility that Washington will keep its military forces in Iraq by changing their role only “on paper”.
It should be mentioned that on Thursday an Iraqi delegation led by Iraqi Foreign Minister Ḥussayn Fu’ād arrived to the American capital Washington to meet with American officials.
American Secretary of the State Anthony Blinken said during his meeting with his Iraqi colleague Ḥussayn Fu’ād in Washington that “we will study with the Iraqi delegation the fight against Dā‘iš until we are able to fix the security and the stability. This is an indication of trusted relations with Iraq”.
On his own behalf the Iraqi Foreign Minister said: “Our presence here is to conduct negotiations and dialogue with the American side”, hoping that the result of the dialogue “shall deepen the joint cooperation between Washington and Baghdad”.
Ḥussayn added that “the principals of the dialogue will rely on the joint work and the mutual respect, the cooperation on a wide range of fields, including the security, the military, the economy, the energy and the health sector combating the Corona virus, but also a number of other fields as well”.

قال رئيس الوزراء العراقي مصطفى الكاظمي، عشية زيارته واشنطن، إن “العراق والولايات المتحدة انخرطا في نقاش ضمن مجموعة عمل خاصة بالعراق خلال السنة الماضية حول أسس العلاقة بين البلدين بعد الانسحاب الأميركيّ
وخلال مقابلة مع وكالة “أسوشيتد برس” الأميركية، قال الكاظمي إن “القوات الأمنية العراقية والجيش قادرون على حماية أمن البلاد ومتابعة التصدّي لجيوب داعش
كما أكّد أن بلاده لم تعد بحاجة إلى قوات قتالية أميركية لمحاربة تنظيم “داعش”، “لكن الإطار الزمني الرسمي لإعادة انتشارها سيعتمد على نتيجة المحادثات مع المسؤولين الأميركيين هذا الأسبوع
وقال الكاظمي إنّ “العراق ليست أفغانستان وإن الانسحاب الأميركيّ من العراق ليس شبيهاً بالانسحاب من أفعانستان، مؤكداً أنّ العراق منفتحٌ على كلّ الدول ومعنيٌّ باستقرار المنطقة سياسياً
وعلى رأس وفد حكومي، توجه رئيس مجلس الوزراء مصطفى الكاظمي، اليوم الأحد، إلى الولايات المتحدة الأميركية وذلك في زيارة رسمية تستغرق عدّة أيام تشهد بحث العلاقات العراقية الأميركية في مختلف المجالات والقضايا الثنائية ذات الإهتمام المشترك
وقال الكاظمي قبيل مغادرته إن “هذه الزيارة تأتي في إطار جهود العراق لترسيخ علاقة وثيقة مع الولايات المتحدة الأميركية، مبنية على أسس الإحترام المتبادل والتعاون الثنائي في مختلف المجالات، كما إنها تتوّج جهوداً طويلة من العمل الحثيث خلال جلسات الحوار الاستراتيجي لتنظيم العلاقة الأمنية بين البلدين على أساس المصلحة الوطنية العراقية
هذا ولم تستبعد مصادر أميركية أن تحتفظ واشنطن بوجودها العسكري في العراق على المستوى الحالي. ونقلت صحيفة “نيويورك تايمز” عن مصادر في وزارة الدفاع الأميركية والبيت الأبيض إمكانية أن تحافظ واشنطن على قواتها العسكرية في العراق من خلال تغيير وظائفهم “على الورق” فقط
يذكر أن يوم الخميس، وصل وفد عراقي برئاسة وزير الخارجية العراقي حسين فؤاد، إلى العاصمة الأميركية واشنطن للقاء المسؤولين الأميركيين
وقال وزير الخارجية الأميركي أنتوني بلينكن خلال لقائه مع نظيره العراقي فؤاد حسين في واشنطن، إنه “سنبحث مع الوفد العراقي مكافحة داعش حتى نتمكن من إقرار الأمن والاستقرار، وهو مؤشر على العلاقة الوثيقة مع العراق
من جهته، قال وزير الخارجية العراقي إن “وجودنا هنا لإجراء الحوار والنقاش مع الجانب الأميركي”، آملاً أن تكون نتائج الحوار “لتعميق التعاون المشترك بين واشنطن وبغداد
وأضاف حسين أن “منطلقات الحوار تستند على العمل المشترك والاحترام المتبادل، والتعاون في مجالات واسعة، منها الأمني والعسكري والاقتصادي والطاقة والمجال الصحي ومكافحة كورونا، والعديد من المجالات الأخرى
