President of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council ‘Abd al-Fattāḥ al-Burhān meets the UN envoy Volker Perthes and the meeting addresses the internal situation and the need for fulfilling the transitional period and appoint a new Prime Minister.
In his office today, on Tuesday President of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council ‘Abd al-Fattāḥ al-Burhān meets the UN envoy to Sudan, Volker Perthes.
According to what the Sudanese Press Agenc said al-Burhān and Volker Perthes confirmed “the need to fulfill the transitional period and the commitment to appoint a new Prime Minister following the resigned Prime Minister ‘Abd Allah Ḥamdūk”.
The agency added that the meeting took place “in the context of continued negotiations between the government and the UN envoy in Sudan”.
It pointed out that “the head of the UN mission during the meeting learned the vision the President of the Sovereignty Council about the present situation in the country, and also he explained the vision of the UN for the remaining phase of the transitional period”.
Washington and Brussels called for not appointing a Prime Minister unilaterally
On their behalf both the United States and the European Union called upon the Sudanese Army today, on Tuesday to “not appoint a Prime Minister unilaterally”. That comes after the resignation of Prime Minister ‘Abd Allah Ḥamdūk.
The troika dealing with Sudan, which is comprised of the United States, the United Kingdom and Norway in addition to the European Union said that it “will not support a Prime Minister or head of government, who is appointed without the participation of a large range of civil representatives”. Thus in the joint statement.
Today thousands of Sudanese people took the streets again “protesting against the military coup and the rule of the Sovereignty Council over the state authority”. At the same time the security forces were heavily deployed in Khartoum and the surrounding cities.
According to what the eyewitnesses reported the Sudanese security forces fired teargas grenades on the protesters, when those gathered around the presidential palace in the center of the capital.
Two days ago Prime Minister ‘Abd Allah Ḥamdūk handed in his resignation and in his resignation speech he said that “the government of the transitional period in Sudan faced grave challenges, yet it managed to handle all of them”. Thus pointing out that “the last agreement with the military component was an attempt to bring the sides together to the negotiating table”.

رئيس مجلس السيادة السوداني عبد الفتاح البرهان يلتقي المبعوث الأممي فولكر بيرتس، واللقاء يتناول الأوضاع الداخلية، وضروة استكمال المرحلة الانتقالية، وتعيين رئيس وزراء جديد
التقى رئيس مجلس السيادة السوداني عبد الفتاح البرهان، في مكتبه اليوم الثلاثاء، المبعوث الأممي إلى السودان فولكر بيرتس.
وأكد البرهان وبيرتس “ضرورة استكمال هياكل الفترة الانتقالية، والإسراع في تعيين رئيس وزراءٍ جديدٍ، خلفاً لرئيس الحكومة المستقيل عبد الله حمدوك”، بحسب ما قالت وكالة الأنباء السودانية.
وأضافت الوكالة أنَّ اللقاء يأتي “في إطار التشاور المستمر بين الحكومة وبعثة الأمم المتحدة فى السودان”.
وأشارت إلى أنَّ “رئيس البعثة الأممية استمع، خلال اللقاء، إلى رؤية رئيس مجلس السيادة بشأن الأوضاع الراهنة في البلاد، كما أطلعه على رؤية الأمم المتحدة إلى الفترة المتبقية من المرحلة الانتقالية”.
واشنطن وبروكسيل تدعوان إلى عدم تعيين رئيس وزراء من جانبٍ واحدٍ
من جهتها، دعت كلٌّ من الولايات المتحدة والاتحاد الأوروبي الجيش السوداني، اليوم الثلاثاء، إلى “عدم تعيين رئيس وزراء من جانبٍ واحدٍ”، وذلك عَقِبَ استقالة رئيس الوزراء عبد الله حمدوك.
وقالت الترويكا المعنية بالسودان، والتي تضمُّ الولايات المتحدة وبريطانيا والنرويج، بالإضافة إلى الاتحاد الأوروبي، إنَّها “لن تدعم رئيساً للوزراء أو حكومةً تُعَيَّن من دون مشاركةِ مجموعةٍ واسعةٍ من أصحاب الشأن المدنيين”، كما جاء في بيانٍ مشتركٍ.
واليوم، نزل آلاف السودانيين إلى الشوارع، مرةً أخرى، “احتجاجاً على الانقلاب العسكري وسيطرة مجلس السيادة على السلطة”، بينما انتشرت قوات الأمن بكثافةٍ في الخرطوم والمدن المجاورة.
وأطلقت قوات الأمن السودانية قنابل الغاز المسيّل للدموع على المتظاهرين، عندما تجمّعوا بالقرب من قصر الرئاسة في وسط العاصمة، وفق ما أفاد شهود عيان.
وقبل يومين، قدّم رئيس الوزراء السوداني عبد الله حمدوك استقالته. وقال، في خطاب الاستقالة، إنَّ “حكومة الفترة الانتقالية في السودان واجهت تحديات شتّى، لكنها استطاعت التعامل معها كلها”، مشيراً إلى أنّ “الاتفاق الأخير مع المكوّن العسكري كان محاولة لجلب الأطراف إلى مائدة الحوار
