Mauritania announces that citizens were killed in the region that lies along the border with Western Sahara and there are accusations against Morocco that it targeted a truck convoy.
Nouakchott announced that two Mauritanians were killed on Sunday at the area lying along the border with Western Sahara in an “incident” about which the media said that a Moroccan bombardment targeted the border area between Mauritania and the region [of Western Sahara], for which the “Polisario Front” being supported by Algeria demands independence from Rabat.
Mauritanian Minister of National Education and Reform for the Educational System Muḥammad Mā’ al-‘Aynanyn Walad Ayīh said during a press conference that “two Mauritanians died in the incident that happened on Sunday”.
The minister confirmed that the incident happened outside the Mauritanian borders without explaining the nature of what happened.
On its behalf, the media close to the “Polisario Front”, which demands independence for Western Sahara mentioned that “a Moroccan drone on Sunday dawn targeted a truck convoy close to the border between Western Sahara and . Mauritania, which caused three deaths”.
After this announcement, Algeria accused Morocco of conducting “targeted assassination operations”.
No official comment was issued by Morocco about this operation, and also it was not confirmed by independent sources.
The Algerian Foreign Ministry said in a statement: “Algeria strongly condemns the targeted assassination operations using developed military weaponry by the Kingdom of Morocco outside its internationally acknowledged borders against innocent civilians, who are the citizens of the three countries in the region, which are Algeria, Mauritania and the Republic of Western Sahara, which Algeria recognizes”.
The statement warned that such attacks “pose most grave dangers for the whole region”.
Last November Algeria announced that 3 of its citizens were martyred in a bombardment accredited to Morocco, and a targeted attack against trucks traveling between Mauritania and Algeria.
The struggle is going on for decades around Western Sahara, a former Spanish colony between Morocco and the “Polisario Front” being supported by Algeria.
Yet the conflict escalated between the two neighbors as much at the end of August Algeria decided to break its diplomatic relations with Rabat, accusing the kingdom to be involved in “acts of aggression” against it.

موريتانيا تعلن مقتل مواطنين في منطقة تقع على الحدود مع الصحراء الغربية، واتهامات تطال المغرب باستهداف قافلة شاحنات.
أعلنت نواكشوط أنّ موريتانيَّين قُتلا يوم الأحد في منطقة تقع على الحدود مع الصحراء الغربية، في “حادث” قالت وسائل إعلام إنّه قصف مغربي استهدف المنطقة الحدودية الواقعة بين موريتانيا والإقليم الذي تطالب “جبهة البوليساريو”، مدعومة من الجزائر، باستقلاله عن الرباط.
وقال وزير التهذيب الوطني وإصلاح النظام التعليمي الموريتاني محمد ماء العينين ولد أييه، خلال مؤتمر صحافي، إنّ “موريتانيَّين قضيا في الحادث الذي وقع الأحد”.
وأكّد الوزير أنّ الحادث وقع خارج الأراضي الموريتانية، من دون أن يوضح طبيعة ما جرى.
من جهتها، ذكرت وسائل إعلام مقرّبة من “جبهة البوليساريو”، التي تطالب باستقلال الصحراء الغربية، أنّ “طائرة مسيّرة مغربية استهدفت فجر الأحد قافلة شاحنات قرب الحدود بين الصحراء الغربية وموريتانيا، ما أسفر عن سقوط ثلاثة قتلى”.
وإثر هذه الأنباء، اتّهمت الجزائر المغرب بتنفيذ “عمليات اغتيال موجّهة”.
ولم يصدر أي تعليق رسمي من المغرب بخصوص هذه العملية، كما لم يتم تأكيدها من مصدر مستقل.
وقالت وزارة الخارجية الجزائرية في بيان: “الجزائر تدين بشدّة عمليات الاغتيال الموجّهة باستعمال أسلحة حربية متطورة من قبل المملكة المغربية، خارج حدودها المعترف بها دولياً، ضدّ مدنيين أبرياء رعايا ثلاث دول في المنطقة، هي الجزائر وموريتانيا والجمهورية العربية الصحراوية التي تعترف بها الجزائر”.
وحذّر البيان من أنّ مثل هذه الهجمات “تعرّض المنطقة برمّتها لتطورات بالغة الخطورة”.
وفي تشرين الثاني/ نوفمبر الماضي، أعلنت الجزائر استشهاد 3 من رعاياها في قصف نسب إلى المغرب، واستهدف شاحنات تقوم برحلات بين موريتانيا والجزائر.
ويدور نزاع منذ عقود حول الصحراء الغربية، المستعمرة الإسبانية السابقة، بين المغرب و”جبهة البوليساريو” المدعومة من الجزائر.
