Tunisian President Qays Sa‘īd issues a new electoral law before the parliamentary elections so that the voters will be able to vote for individuals and not lists.
On Thursday the official Tunisian gazette announced that President Qays Sa‘īd issued a new electoral law before the parliamentary elections scheduled to be held in December.
The gazette added that according to the new law the voters will elect individuals rather than a list, as it was in the previous elections.
Earlier the same day Sa‘īd issued an order to invite the voters to the next legislative elections in the country on 17 December, pointing out that a draft resolution has been forward about the elections to be debated.
During a cabinet meeting, he said that “the electoral law is not any less important than the constitution, even if it was on a lower level legally”, underlining that “no side is barred from the next legislative elections given it fulfills the requirements stipulated by the electoral law”.

الرئيس التونسي، قيس سعيد، يُصدر قانوناً انتخابياً جديداً قبل الانتخابات البرلمانية، على أن يصوّت الناخبون لأفراد وليس لقوائم
أعلنت الجريدة الرسمية في تونس، اليوم الخميس، أنّ الرئيس قيس سعيد أصدر قانوناً انتخابياً جديداً، قبل الانتخابات البرلمانية المقرّرة في كانون الأوّل/ديسمبر
وأضافت الجريدة أنّه، بموجب القانون الجديد، سيصوّت الناخبون لأفراد وليس لقوائم، كما في الانتخابات السابقة
وأصدر سعيد، في وقت سابق اليوم، أمراً بدعوة الناخبين إلى الانتخابات التشريعية في البلاد، في 17 كانون الأوّل/ديسمبر المقبل، لافتاً إلى أنّه تمّ وضع مشروع مرسوم سيتم التداول فيه بشأن الانتخابات
وقال، خلال اجتماع لمجلس الوزراء، إنّ “القانون الانتخابي لا يقلّ أهمية عن الدستور، حتى إن كان دونه مرتبةً قانونية”، مشدّداً على أن “لا إقصاء لأي طرف في الانتخابات التشريعية المقبلة إن توافرت فيه الشروط التي ينص عليها القانون الانتخابي
