Tunisian President Qays Sa‘īd terminates the appointment of Prime Minister Nağlā’ Būdan and following her appoints a former official of the Central Bank, who is Aḥmad al-Ḥašānī.

Shortly before Tuesday midnight Tunisian President Qays Sa‘īd terminates the duties of Prime Minister Nağlā’ Būdan and in her stead appoints a former official of the Central Bank, who is Aḥmad al-Ḥašānī, asking him to face “the major challenges”.

No official reason was given for the decision of Sa‘īd, why ended the appointment of Būdan, but a number of local media outlets shed light on the apprehension of Sa‘īd, as there is a shortage of a number of commodities in the country, including bread in the state-subsidized bakeries.

Video footage and a statement published by the Presidential Office held that Sa‘īd “decided tonight to terminate the duty of Lady Nağlā Būdan Ramaḍān”, who was the first woman to head a government in Tunisia”.

According to what the new head of government said on his Facebook account, al-Ḥašānī used to work in the Central Bank and had studied law at the University of Tunis, where Sa‘īd was teaching.

As it seemed from the video footage that the Presidential Office published, the head of the new government swore immediately in front of Sa‘īd.

After swearing in Sa‘īd wished him “success in this responsibility that he will carry in these exact circumstances”.

Sa‘īd said that there are “major challenges that must be tackled with the utmost rigorously and strong management to safeguard our homeland, our state and the social peace”.

Within the last few days, numerous meetings were held within the government and between the president and the ministers about the problem of shortages in subsidized bread in a number of regions.

The media mentioned that Sa‘īd recently said that “the bread is a red line for the Tunisians”, and that he is concerned that the same events of bread will repeat themselves that took 150 lives in 1984 in the era of al-Ḥabīb Būrqība.

It should be pointed out that Nağlā’ Būdan was tasked on 21 September 2021 to form the new government and thus she was the first woman to overtake this high position in the history of modern Tunisia.

الرئيس التونسي، قيس سعيّد، ينهي مهمّات رئيسة الوزراء نجلاء بودن ويعيّن خلفاً لها مسؤولاً سابقاً في البنك المركزي هو أحمد الحشاني

أنهى الرئيس التونسي، قيس سعيّد، قُبيل منتصف ليل الثلاثاء مهمّات رئيسة الوزراء نجلاء بودن وعيّن خلفاً لها مسؤولاً سابقاً في البنك المركزي هو أحمد الحشاني، طالباً منه مواجهة “تحدّيات كبيرة”.

ولم يُعطِ أيّ سبب رسمي لقرار سعيّد إنهاء مهمّات بودن، لكنّ عدداً من وسائل الإعلام المحلية سلّط الضوء على استياء سعيّد من نقص في عدد من المواد في البلاد، ولا سيّما نقص الخبز في المخابز المدعومة من الدولة.

وجاء في مقطع فيديو وبيان نشرتهما الرئاسة أنّ سعيّد “قرّر مساء اليوم.. إنهاء مهام السيّدة نجلاء بودن رمضان” التي كانت أوّل امرأة تقود حكومة في تونس

وكان الحشاني يعمل في البنك المركزي التونسي ودرس في كلّية الحقوق في جامعة تونس حيث كان سعيّد مدرّساً، حسبما قال رئيس الحكومة الجديد في صفحته بموقع “فيسبوك”.

وعلى الفور، أدّى رئيس الحكومة الجديد، اليمين الدستوريّة أمام سعيّد، حسبما أظهر مقطع الفيديو الذي نشرته الرئاسة

وفي أعقاب تأديته اليمين، تمنّى له سعيّد “التوفيق في هذه المسؤوليّة التي سيتحمّلها في هذا الظرف بالذّات”.

وقال سعيّد إنّ هناك “تحدّيات كبيرة لا بدّ أن نرفعها بعزيمة صلبة وبإرادة قويّة للحفاظ على وطننا وعلى دولتنا وعلى السلم الأهلي”. 

في الأيام الأخيرة، عُقِدت اجتماعات عدّة داخل الحكومة، وبين الرئيس والوزراء، بشأن مشاكل نقص الخبز المدعوم في مناطق عدّة.

وذكرت وسائل إعلام أنّ سعيّد قال في الآونة الأخيرة إنّ “الخبز خطّ أحمر بالنسبة إلى التونسيّين”، وأنه يخشى تكرار أحداث الخبز التي أودت بحياة 150 شخصاً عام 1984 في عهد الحبيب بورقيبة.

يشار إلى أنّ الرئيس كلّف نجلاء بودن، في 29 أيلول/سبتمبر 2021، بتشكيل الحكومة الجديدة، لتكون بذلك أول امرأة تتولى هذا المنصب الرفيع في تاريخ تونس الحديث
