Emirati Foreign Minister ‘Abd Allah ibn Zāyid visits the Syrian capital Damascus and meets with Syrian President Baššār al-Asad in a meeting first of its kind since the outbreak of the war in Syria for more then 10 years.

The Syrian Presidency announced that Syrian President Baššār al-Asad received Emirati Foreign Minister ‘Abd Allah ibn Zāyid, who arrived to the Syrian capital Damascus today, on Tuesday.

The account of the Syrian Presidency added on Twitter that the delegation of the Emirati Minister included “Halīfa Šāhīn Emirati State Minister and ‘Alī Muḥammad Ḥammād aš-Šāmisī, director of the Federal Office for Identities, Citizenship, Customs and Border Security holding the rank of Minister”.

During the meeting “the study of the bilateral relations were studied between the two brotherly states, the improvement of the bilateral cooperation in various fields having mutual interests and to enhance the efforts to reveal the new prospects of this cooperation, especially on the living sectors, in order to strengthen the investment partnerships in these sectors”.

President al-Asad confirmed “the trusted brotherly relations, which bring the two states together since the days of the late aš-Šayh Zāyid ibn Sulṭān Āl Nahyān”, and al-Asad mentioned “the objective and poignant stances the Emirates took”, underlining that “the Emirates always stood by the side of the Syrian people”.

On his own behalf Emirati Foreign Minister ‘Abd Allah ibn Zāyid underlined “the support of the Emirates for the stabilization efforts in Syria”, expressing that “what happened in Syria effected all Arab states”. Thus expressing “his trust that Syria under the leadership of President al-Asad and by the efforts of his people is capable to overcome the threats enforced by the war”. He also pointed out that “the Emirates is always ready to support the Syrian people”.

Insightful sources mentioned that the Emirati delegation studied with President al-Asad the return of Syria to the League of Arab Nations.

It was also mentioned that this visit is the first of this kind since the outbreak of the war in Syria in 2011.

Later on the “ ‘Ammūn” Jordanian news agency reported that “the Emirati Foreign Minister arrived to the Jordanian capital Amman today, on Tuesday, after visiting Damascus leading a high level delegation”.

The news agency added that “Ibn Zāyid during this meeting will meet Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister and Ayman aṣ-Ṣafadī”.

It should also be mentioned that the “SANA” Syrian News Agency reported on 20 October that Syrian President Baššār al-Asad held a telephone conversation with Abū Zabī Crown Prince Muḥammad ibn Zāyid Āl Nahyān, as he conversation was held between the two about the latest developments of the situation in the regional and on the international level.

The news agency explained that the communication discussed “the bilateral relations and the ways of strengthening them, but also the fields of bilateral cooperation between Syria and the Emirates. Also the joint efforts to expands them, including the interest of both states and peoples”.

Last March Emirati Foreign Minister ‘Abd Allah ibn Zāyid Āl Nahyān said that “Syria’s return its Arab surrounding is a necessary thing, which is the interest of Syria and the region”.

وزير الخارجية الإماراتي، عبد الله بن زايد، يزور العاصمة السورية دمشق، ويلتقي الرئيس بشار الأسد، في زيارة هي الأولى من نوعها، منذ اندلاع الحرب في سوريا قبل أكثر من 10 سنوات

أعلنت الرئاسة السورية أن الرئيس السوري بشار الأسد استقبل وزير الخارجية الإماراتي عبد الله بن زايد، الذي وصل إلى العاصمة السورية دمشق، اليوم الثلاثاء

وأضافت صفحة الرئاسة السورية في موقع “تويتر” أنَّ وزير الوفد الإماراتي ضمَّ أيضاً “خليفة شاهين، وزير دولة في الخارجية الإماراتية، وعلي محمد حماد الشامسي، رئيس الهيئة الاتحادية للهوية والجنسية والجمارك وأمن المنافذ، بمرتبة وزير

وجرى، خلال اللقاء، “البحث في العلاقات الثنائية بين البلدين الشقيقين، وتطوير التعاون الثنائي في مختلف المجالات ذات الاهتمام المشترك، وتكثيف الجهود من أجل استكشاف آفاق جديدة لهذا التعاون، وخصوصاً في القطاعات الحيوية، من أجل تعزيز الشراكات الاستثمارية في هذه القطاعات

وأكد الرئيس الأسد “العلاقات الأخوية الوثيقة التي تجمع بين البلدين منذ أيام الراحل الشيخ زايد بن سلطان آل نهيان”، ونوَّه الأسد بـ”المواقف الموضوعية والصائبة التي تتخذها الإمارات”، مشدداً على أن “الإمارات وقفت دائماً إلى جانب الشعب السوري

من جهته، شدّد وزير الخارجية الإماراتي، عبد الله بن زايد، على “دعم الإمارات جهودَ الاستقرار في سوريا”، معتبراً أن “ما حدث في سوريا أثّر في كل الدول العربية”، معرباً عن “ثقته بأن سوريا، بقيادة الرئيس الأسد وجهود شعبها، قادرة على تجاوز التحديات التي فرضتها الحرب”، ومشيراً إلى أن “الإمارات مستعدة دائماً لمساندة الشعب السوري

وذكرت مصادر مطّلعة أنَّ الموفد الإماراتي بحث مع الرئيس الأسد في عودة سوريا إلى جامعة الدول العربية

يُذكَر أنَّ هذه الزيارة هي الأولى من نوعها منذ اندلاع الحرب في سوريا عام 2011

وفي وقت لاحقٍ، أفادت وكالة “عمّون” الأردنية للأنباء بأنَّ “وزير الخارجية الإماراتي يصل اليوم الثلاثاء إلى العاصمة الأردنية عمّان، بعد زيارته دمشق، على رأس وفد رفيع المستوى

وأضافت الوكالة أنَّ “ابن زايد سيلتقي، خلال هذه الزيارة، نائب رئيس الوزراء وزير الخارجية وشؤون المغتربين الأردني أيمن الصفدي

يُذكَر أنّ وكالة “سانا” السورية للأنباء أفادت، في 20 تشرين الأول/أكتوبر الماضي، بأن الرئيس السوري بشار الأسد أجرى اتصالاً هاتفياً بولي عهد أبو ظبي محمد بن زايد آل نهيان، بحيث جرى النقاش بينهما في آخر تطورات الأوضاع، في الساحتين الإقليمية والدولية

وأوضحت الوكالة أنّ الاتصال تناول “العلاقات الثنائية وسبل تعزيزها، ومجالات التعاون الثنائي بين سوريا والإمارات، والجهود المشتركة في توسيعها، لما فيه مصلحة البلدين والشعبين

وفي آذار/مارس الماضي، قال وزير الخارجية الإماراتي، عبد الله بن زايد آل نهيان، إن “عودة سوريا إلى محيطها العربي أمر لا بدّ منه، وهو من مصلحة سوريا والمنطقة”.
