Saudi Foreign Minister Fayṣal ibn Farḥān talks about the relations with Tehran during his speech following the meeting of the foreign ministers of the GCC states with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Saudi Foreign Minister Fayṣal ibn Farḥān said that “the dialogue with Iran has to be built on the united Gulf position”. This comes in the context of talks hosted by Baghdad between Riyadh and Tehran”.
During his speech following a meeting between the foreign ministers of the GCC states with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Wednesday in Riyadh Ibn Farḥān added: “There has to be a dialogue and we have contacted Iran based on the united Gulf position”.
He continued: “By this dialogue, we call urge a de-escalation, cooperation, and commitment to the principles of international legality and good neighborly behavior”. He also pointed out that “the challenges the Gulf Cooperation Council faces include the Iranian nuclear and missile programs”.
The Reuters agency cited the Saudi Foreign Minister saying “our arms are stretched out Iran” when he commented on the international negotiations with Tehran in order to revive the nuclear agreement. He said: “If we managed to revive the nuclear agreement that would be a good thing”.
It should be remembered that the official spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry Sa‘īd Haṭībzāde said in a statement yesterday that “Iran fundamentally aims to strengthen its diplomatic relations and the mutual visitations between itself and the neighboring states”. This also points out that “the date for the sixth session of the Saudi-Iranian talks hasn’t been determined yet”.
Iranian Foreign Minister Ḥosseyn Amīr ‘Abdollahiyān on his behalf confirmed that “Iran and Saudi Arabia are two great and influential states in the region and Tehran had never completely cut its diplomatic relations with Riyadh”.
The Iranian Foreign Minister pointed out that there is progress in the recent talks between its country and Saudi Arabia, announcing that it welcomes the return of the joint bilateral relations to its normal state”.

وزير الخارجية السعودي فيصل بن فرحان، يتحدث عن العلاقة مع إيران خلال كلمة عقب اجتماع لوزراء خارجية مجلس التعاون الخليجي، مع وزير الخارجية الروسي سيرغي لافروف
قال وزير الخارجية السعودي، فيصل بن فرحان، إنّ “الحوار مع إيران يجب أن يكون مبنياً على موقف خليجي موحد”، وذلك في ظل محادثات تستضيفها بغداد بين الرياض وطهران.
وأضاف ابن فرحان، خلال كلمة عقب اجتماع لوزراء خارجية مجلس التعاون الخليجي مع وزير الخارجية الروسي سيرغي لافروف، اليوم الأربعاء في الرياض: “يجب أن يكون حوارنا وتواصلنا مع إيران مبني على موقف خليجي موحد”.
وتابع: “من خلال الحوار ندعوها للتهدئة والتعاون والالتزام بمبادئ الشرعية الدولية وحسن الجوار”. كما لفت إلى أنّ “التحديات التي تواجه مجلس التعاون الخليجي تشمل برنامج إيران النووي والصاروخي”.
وكانت وكالة “رويترز” نقلت عن وزير الخارجية السعودي، قوله إن “أيدينا ممدودة إلى إيران”. وفيما يتعلق بالمفاوضات الدولية مع طهران لإعادة إحياء الاتفاق النووي، قال: “إذا توصلنا إلى إحياء الاتفاق النووي، فسيكون أمراً جيداً”.
يذكر أنّ المتحدث باسم وزارة الخارجية الإيرانية، سعيد خطيب زاده، قال في تصريحات يوم أمس، إنّ “إيران تتوجه أساساً نحو تعزيز علاقاتها الدبلوماسية والزيارات المتبادلة بينها وبين دول الجوار”، مشيراً إلى أن “موعد الجولة السادسة من الحوار الإيراني السعودي لم يحدد بعد”.
وزير الخارجية الإيراني حسين أمير عبد اللهيان أكّد بدوره أنّ “إيران والسعودية دولتان كبيرتان ومؤثرتان في المنطقة، ولم تقطع طهران العلاقات الدبلوماسية تماماً مع الرياض“.
ولفت وزير الخارجية الإيراني إلى أنّ هناك تقدّماً في المحادثات الأخيرة بين بلاده والسعودية، معلناً ترحيبه بعودة العلاقات الثنائية المشتركة إلى وضعها الطبيعي
