Fierce clashes broke out at the entrance of the city of az-Zāwiya Western Libya with heavy weapons on Thursday night to Friday morning between the militias of Muḥammad al-Baḥrūn, called “al-Fār” centered at the city of the az-Zāwiya and the militia of Stability Support Service, which is led by ‘Abd al-Ġanī al-Kakalī, called “Ġanyuwa” centered in the capital Tripoli.
The clashes started after the murder of a soldier belonging to the militia of the Stability Support Service and in that a number of heavy weapons types were used. Also the security entrance points and the main road were closed down, while the military movements in the city still go on.
The city of az-Zāwiya, which is considered as one of the biggest cities in Western Libya witnesses the presence of armed militias. For weeks now there are sporadic clashes between the different armed formations in the city, which are struggling for the zones of influence and smuggling routes. Local mediations haven’t succeeded to reach a settlement between the struggling parties.
Last week the main oil refinery in the city producing some 120 barrels a day suffered huge damages in result of armed confrontations between the militias.

اندلعت اشتباكات مسلحة عنيفة بالأسلحة الثقيلة ليل الخميس إلى الجمعة، بين ميليشيات محمد البحرون الملقب بـ”الفار” تابعة لمدينة الزاوية، وميليشيا جهاز دعم الاستقرار التي يقودها عبد الغني الككلي الملقب بـ”غنيوة” تابعة للعاصمة طرابلس، في مدخل مدينة الزاوية، غرب ليبيا.
وبدأت الاشتباكات، بعد مقتل عنصر تابع لمليشيا جهاز دعم الاستقرار، واستخدمت فيها عدة أنواع من أسلحة ثقيلة، كما تمّ إغلاق بوابات أمنية وطرقات رئيسية، فيما تستمر التحشيدات العسكرية بالمدينة.
وتشهد مدينة الزاوية التي تعتبر من أكثر مدن الغرب الليبي تواجدا للميليشيات المسلحة، منذ أسابيع اشتباكات متقطعة بين مختلف التشكيلات المسلحة بالمدينة، التي تتصارع على مناطق النفوذ وطرق التهريب، لم تنجح وساطات محليّة في إبرام تسوية بين أطراف النزاع.
والأسبوع الماضي، تعرضت مصفاة رئيسية للنفط بالمدينة، تبلغ طاقتها 120 ألف برميل يوميا، إلى أضرار فادحة، نتيجة مواجهات مسلحة بين المليشيات.
