The Iraqi Foreign Minister points out that there is a discussion to have the next round of the Saudi-Iranian negotiations on a level other than that of the foreign ministers.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Fu‘ad Ḥussayn announced the closure of the fifth round of the Saudi-Iranian negotiations.
Ḥussayn said in a television statement on Thursday that “there are discussions to have the next session between Riyadh and Tehran not on a foreign minister level”. Thus confirming “the preparation circumstances for the next round”.
On 20 August the official spokesman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Abū Faẓl ‘Umū’ī confirmed that the negotiations with Saudi Arabia reached the phase of restoring the relations to a good level.
Earlier Iranian Foreign Minister Ḥosseyn Amīr ‘Abdollahiyān confirmed that his country welcomed the position of Saudi Arabia to transform the dialogue between themselves to a level of restoring the relations that were cut years ago, or “from a security to a political level”.
About the Iranian nuclear negotiations, Ḥussayn confirmed that his country “supports the nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington”, pointing out that “the turmoil negatively affects the internal situation in Iraq”. He described the relations with Iran as “good”.
Regarding the relations of his county with the United States, the Iraqi Foreign Minister confirmed that Baghdad desires to improve its relations with the United States and that “the American military presence in Iraq is existent on a training and counsel level”.
Also, the Iraqi Foreign Minister addressed the relations of his country with Turkey and said: “it is an important country and there are common interests between the two. We have to reach an understanding”. Thus confirming “the need to improve the relations with it and that has to rely on a mutual understanding”.
He added that his country “seeks with Ankara the ways to end the armed operation against the Kurdistani Workers’ Party”, confirming that “the matter of the armed operations about the Kurdistani Workers’ Party cannot be solved with aggression and weapons”.
Previously Iraqi President Barham Ṣāliḥ and Prime Minister Muṣṭafā al-Kāẓimī criticized the Turkish bombardment that targeted the Kurdistani Workers’ Party in Iraq that they described as a “blatant and outrageous transgression against the Iraqi sovereignty”.
The Iraqi Foreign Minister addressed the political crisis in his country saying that “the current negotiations with the political organizations” that “there are efforts to have a parliamentary session soon”. Thus wishing that an agreement be reached with the “aṣ-Ṣadrī Movement” so that it would be part of a government formation.
On 29 August the leader of the “aṣ-Ṣadrī Movement” in Iraq as-Sayyid Muqtadā aṣ-Ṣadr that he “permanently” retires from political work and closes all institutions belonging to him, except “the Holy Shrine, the Holy Museum, and the Āl aṣ-Ṣadr Heritage Foundation”.
Since the early elections were held in October 2021 Iraq has suffered from a fierce political crisis, as the negotiations between the political parties about naming the next Prime Minister haven’t yielded results yet.

أعلن وزير الخارجية العراقي فؤاد حسين اختتام الجولة الخامسة من المحادثات السعودية الإيرانية
وقال حسين، في تصريحات تلفزيونية، اليوم الخميس، إنّ “هناك نقاشاً في أن تكون الجلسة المقبلة بين الرياض وطهران على مستوى غير وزراء الخارجية”، مؤكداً “تهيئة الظروف لجولة مقبلة
وفي 20 آب/أغسطس الماضي، أكد المتحدث باسم لجنة الأمن القومي والسياسة الخارجية في البرلمان الإيراني، أبو الفضل عموئي، أنّ المحادثات مع السعودية وصلت إلى مرحلة إعادة العلاقات إلى المستوى الجيد
وسبق أن أكّد وزير الخارجية الإيراني حسين أمير عبد اللهيان أنّ بلاده تبلغت موافقة السعودية على انتقال الحوار بينهما إلى مستوى إعادة العلاقات المقطوعة منذ أعوام، أي “من المستوى الأمني إلى السياسي
وبشأن المفاوضات النووية الإيرانية، أكد حسين أنّ بلاده “تؤيد المفاوضات النووية بين طهران وواشنطن”، مشيراً إلى أنّ “التوتر يؤثر سلباً في الوضع الداخلي للعراق”، واصفاً العلاقات بإيران بـ”الجيدة
وبالنسبة إلى علاقات بلاده بالولايات المتحدة، أكد وزير الخارجية العراقي أنّ بغداد تسعى لتطوير العلاقات بالولايات المتحدة، وأنّ “الوجود العسكري الأميركي في العراق هو في إطار التدريب والتشاور
كذلك، تناول وزير الخارجية العراقي علاقات بلاده بتركيا، وقال: “إنّها دولة مهمة، وبيننا مصالح مشتركة، وعلينا التوصل إلى تفاهمات”، مؤكداً “ضرورة تطوير العلاقات معها، على أن تستند على التفاهم المشترك
وأضاف أنّ بلاده “تبحث مع أنقرة سبل التخلص من العمل المسلّح لحزب العمال الكردستاني”، مؤكداً أنّه “لا يمكن حلّ مسألة العمل المسلّح لحزب العمال الكردستاني بالعنف والسلاح
وسبق أن ندد الرئيس العراقي برهم صالح، ورئيس الحكومة مصطفى الكاظمي، بالقصف التركي الذي يستهدف حزب العمال الكردستاني في العراق، الذي وصفاه بـ”الانتهاك الصريح والسافر للسيادة العراقية
