Eritrea and Russia discuss the enhancing of the cooperation between themselves, especially in the field of developing the bilateral military technical cooperation.

The Russian embassy in Eritrea announced that the two sides had discussed the matter of developing the bilateral military technical cooperation at the Eritrean port of Massawa on the Red Sea.

The statement of the embassy held: “Russian-Eritrean discussions took place about the military technical cooperation at the residence of the President of Eritrea and the two sides exchanged views and suggestions about developing cooperation on these fields. They also outlined more steps of cooperation”.

The meeting was attended by high level Eritrean officials, including Eritrean Army Chief of Staff General Filipos Woldeyohannes, Commander of the Eritrean Air Forces Major General Tahalāy Habtā Salāmī, Commander of the Defense Forces Training Center Major General Ramaḍān ‘Utmān Awlayāy and Chief of Staff of the Eritrean Naval Forces Colonel Malākā Tahallā Māryām, along with cultural and sports attaché Zamda Tahallā, and on the other hand Ambassador of the Russian Federation Igor Muzgo.

The statement pointed out that Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki met with Deputy General Commander of the Russian Naval Forces Admiral Vladimir Kasatonov during the visit of the Russian “Marshal Shabushnikov” frigate at the Eritrean port of Massawa as part of the work schedule dedicated to the commemoration of the 30th year anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Russia and Eritrea.

In the same context the Russian ambassador in Asmara Igor Muzgo on Wednesday announced holding joint Russian military exercises with the Eritrean naval forces within the activities of the Russian “Marshal Shabushnikov” frigate at the Eritrean coast between 28 March and 5 April 2024.

The press office of the Pacific Ocean fleet pointed out that the welcome ceremony was held on the margins of the celebration responding to the invitation of the first Russian ship to Eritrea in the modern history of Russia and the event was attended by the representatives of the local administration, the naval and the air forces.

It should be pointed out that the vessel of the Pacific Ocean fleet has lasted few days before the frigate continued to fulfill its scheduled naval journey to distant destinations. The Russian “Marshal Shabushnikov” frigate in the first Russian ship of its kind to conduct drills with Eritrea since the independence of the state in 1993.

Eritrean Information Minister Yemane Meskel had announced on Wednesday that President Isaias Afwerki held intensive negotiations at Massawa with the Russian delegation led by Deputy General Commander of the Russian Naval Forces Admiral Vladimir Kasatonov.

Meskel mentioned in a post on the X platform that the discussions concentrated on strengthening the bilateral relations “that had been outlined in St. Petersburg during the Russia-Africa Summit”. In addition to that other matters, most importantly the enhancement of the infrastructure, energy, mining, agriculture, marine resources, defense, security fields, the diplomatic support and others.

The two sides also discussed the “prospects of Russian support to the regional efforts to achieve peace and stability in the regions of the Red Sea and the Horn of Africa”.

The Russian “Marshal Shabushnikov” frigate belongs to the Russian Pacific Ocean fleet, which is an updated minesweeper frigate, which has been equipped with the most modern weapons as missiles.

The frigate entered the Eritrean port on 28 March and the Information Support Division of the Pacific Ocean Fleet announced that the visit by the frigate counts to be the first by a Russian vessel to the country in the modern history of Russia.

It should be mentioned that Eritrea expressed its interest to develop ties with the Russian vessel manufacturing companies “Orel” and “Kamaz”, as their products proved to be ideal for the Eritrean climate.

It should also be mentioned that the gross trade exchange between Russia and Eritrea has reached $13.5 million in 2022, of which the majority was the grain export in the value of $11.5 million according to the documents of the negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki in the Kremlin.

The gross bilateral trade in 2022 was around $9.34 million, where the grain export was $8,125 million, the oil products were 0.175 million, the carbon products $0.888 million and the finished clothing products $0,126 million.

أعلنت السفارة الروسية في إريتريا، أن الجانبين ناقشا مسألة تطوير التعاون العسكري. التقني الثنائي في ميناء “مصوع” الإريتري على البحر الأحمر.

وجاء في بيان السفارة: “عقدت المحادثات الروسية- الإريترية حول التعاون العسكري التقني. في مقر إقامة رئيس إريتريا، وتبادل الجانبان وجهات النظر والمقترحات بشأن تطوير التعاون. في هذه المجالات، وحددا المزيد من خطوات التعاون”.

وحضر الاجتماع مسؤولون إريتريون رفيعو المستوى بينهم الجنرال فيليبوس ولديوهانس رئيس. أركان قوات الدفاع الإريترية، واللواء تخلاي هبتى سلاسي قائد القوات الجوية الإريترية، واللواء رمضان عثمان أويلياي قائد مركز. تدريب قوات الدفاع الإريترية، والعقيد ملاكى تخلى ماريام رئيس أركان القوات البحرية الإريترية، إلى جانب السفير زمدى تخلى مفوض الثقافة. والرياضة؛ وإيغور موزغو سفير روسيا الاتحادية لدى إريتريا.

وأشار البيان إلى أن الرئيس الإريتري أسياس أفورقي، رافق نائب القائد العام للقوات. البحرية الروسية الأدميرال فلاديمير كاساتونوف خلال زيارة للفرقاطة الروسية “المارشال شابوشنيكوف” الراسية في ميناء “مصوع” كجزء. من جدول الأعمال المخصص للذكرى الـ30 لإقامة العلاقات الدبلوماسية بين روسيا وإريتريا.

وفي السياق نفسه، أعلن السفير الروسي في أسمرا إيغور موزغو، اليوم الأربعاء، إجراء. مناورات عسكرية روسية مشتركة مع البحرية الإريترية ضمن نشاطات تقوم بها الفرقاطة الروسية “المارشال شابوشنيكوف” في. الشواطئ الإريترية بين 28 مارس/آذار و5 أبريل/نيسان 2024.

وكان وزير الإعلام الإريتري، يماني ميسكل، أعلن أمس الثلاثاء أن الرئيس أسياس. أفورقي أجرى مناقشات مكثفة في “مصوع” مع وفد روسي برئاسة نائب القائد العام للبحرية الروسية، الأدميرال فلاديمير كاساتونوف.

وذكر ميسكل في منشور على منصة “إكس” أن المناقشات تركزت على تعزيز العلاقات. الثنائية “التي تم تحديدها في سان بطرسبرغ خلال القمة الأفريقية الروسية”. بالإضافة إلى مسائل أخرى أبرزها تعزيز قطاعات البنية التحتية والطاقة والتعدين والزراعة والموارد البحرية والدفاع والأمن والدعم الدبلوماسي وغيرها.

كما ناقش الجانبان “آفاق الدعم الروسي للجهود الإقليمية لتحقيق السلام والاستقرار في منطقتي البحر الأحمر والقرن الأفريقي”. 

وتتبع فرقاطة “المارشال شابوشنيكوف” أسطول المحيط الهادئ الروسي، وهي سفينة مضادة للغواصات وخضعت للتحديث، وقد تم تزويدها بأحدث الأسلحة والصواريخ.

ودخلت الفرقاطة ميناء إريتريا في 28 مارس، وأعلن قسم دعم المعلومات لأسطول. المحيط الهادئ، أن زيارة الفرقاطة تعدّ أول زيارة لسفينة روسية إلى هذا البلد في تاريخ روسيا المعاصر.

يذكر أن إريتريا أعربت عن اهتمامها بتطوير العلاقات مع شركات صناعة الشاحنات. الروسية “أورال” و”كاماز”، حيث أثبتت منتجاتهما جدواها في ظروف المناخ الإريتري. 

يذكر أن إجمالي التجارة بين روسيا وإريتريا بلغ 13.5 مليون دولار في 2022، وتمثّلت. معظمها في صادرات القمح بقيمة 11.5 مليون دولار، وفقاً لوثائق المحادثات بين الرئيس الروسي فلاديمير. بوتين والرئيس الإريتري إسياس أفورقي في الكرملين.

كما بلغ إجمالي التجارة الثنائية في عام 2021 نحو 9.314 ملايين دولار، حيث بلغت. صادرات القمح 8.125 ملايين دولار، ومنتجات النفط 0.175 مليون دولار، والكبريتات 0.888 مليون دولار، وبلغت. الواردات من الملابس الجاهزة 0.126 مليون دولار
