The United States confirmed its disapproval for the measures the government of the Emirates took in the context of renewing the relations with the Syrian authorities, pointing out that the special sanctions in Syria have already targeted the Emirati side.

The American special representative for the Syrian affairs James Jeffrey said in a press conference held on Wednesday about the beginning of the implementation of the “Caesar Act” commenting that the Emirati government reopened its embassy in Damascus and that an Emirati delegation recently visited it: “The Emirates knows that we refuse that states take such steps… we confirmed clearly that we believe this is a bad idea”.
Jeffrey believed that such measures “will not contribute to the implementation of the U.N. Security Council’s decree (number 2254) and to the end of the conflict, which seriously worries the whole region”.
He continued: “All those, who conduct economic activities, whether they are in the Emirates, or in other states and performed these activities with the special act of the sanctions have been already targeted”.
On Wednesday that the United States has started to implement the “Caesar Act”, which enforces sanctions on 39 personnel and entities in the Syrian government, including the president of the state, Baššār al-Asad, and his wife, Asmā’ al-Asad.

وقال الممثل الأمريكي الخاص المعني بشؤون سوريا، جيمس جيفري، في مؤتمر صحفي عقده الأربعاء بشأن بدء تطبيق “قانون قيصر”، تعليقا على إعادة فتح الحكومة الإماراتية سفارتها في دمشق وزيارة وفد إماراتي إليها مؤخرا: “الإمارات تعرف أننا نرفض على الإطلاق اتخاذ الدول مثل هذه الخطوات… أكدنا بوضوح أننا نعتبر ذلك فكرة سيئة
واعتبر جيفري أن مثل هذه الإجراءات “لن تسهم في تطبيق قرار مجلس الأمن التابع للأمم المتحدة (رقم 2254) وإنهاء النزاع الذي يقلق جدا المنطقة كلها
وتابع: “كل من يمارس الأنشطة الاقتصادية إن كان في الإمارات أو في البلدان الأخرى، وتطابقت هذه الأنشطة مع معايير القانون الخاص بالعقوبات، فقد يتم استهدافه بها
