The Algerian Ministry of Energy said warned Spain with annulling the contract with it in the matter of sending natural gas in case it is redirected to any country not specifically mentioned in the contract.
The Algerian Ministry of Energy and Mines on Wednesday warned Spain that it will terminate the contracts with it regarding the natural gas supplementation, in case the Algerian gas is redirected “to any parties not stipulated in the contract” between the two countries.
The Ministry said in its statement that “any supply of the Algerian natural gas-directed to Spain being exported to any sides not stipulated in the contract is considered a breach of one of its conditions.”.
It also added that “any direction for the Algerian natural gas not specified in the contract will lead to the termination of the contract, which links the Sonatrach national energy company with its Spanish costumers”.
The statement pointed out that the warning came after the Algerian Minister of Energy and Mines Muḥammad ‘Arqāb on Wednesday received an e-mail from his Spanish counterpart Teresa Riveira informing him about the decision of Spain to allow the countercurrent via the Moroccan-European gas pipeline and its is planned that the decision to be implemented today, or tomorrow”
It should be stated that the Algerian Energy Company Sonatrach signed an agreement with the Italian “Eni” company at the beginning of April this year with the aim to extend the volume of gas exported from the North African county to Italy, which caused fears for Spain that this will affect its Algerian gas supply.

وزارة الطاقة الجزائرية تحذر إسبانيا من فسخ التعاقد معها فيما يتعلق بإرسال الغاز في حال قامت بإعادة توجيهه لأي وجهة غير منصوصة في العقد
حذرت وزارة الطاقة والمناجم الجزائرية، اليوم الأربعاء، إسبانيا بأنها ستقوم بفسخ التعاقد معها فيما يتعلق بإرسال الغاز، إذا قامت بإعادة توجيه الغاز الجزائري “لأي وجهة غير منصوص عليها في العقد” بين البلدين.
وقالت الوزارة في بيانها إن “كل تزويد بالغاز الطبيعي الجزائري الموجه لإسبانيا، لأي وجهة غير منصوص عليها في العقد يعتبر إخلالاً بأحد بنوده”.
وأضافت أنّ “أي وجهة للغاز الجزائري غير منصوص عليها في العقد قد يؤدي إلى إلغاء العقد الذي يربط شركة الطاقة الوطنية سونطراك بزبائنها الأسبان”.
وأشار البيان إلى أن التحذير جاء بعد تلقي وزير الطاقة والمناجم الجزائري، محمد عرقاب، اليوم الأربعاء بريداً إلكترونياً من نظيرته الإسبانية، تيريزا ريبيرا تبلغه فيه بقرار إسبانيا القاضي بترخيص التدفق العكسي عبر أنبوب الغاز المغاربي الأوروبي، والشروع بتنفيذ القرار اليوم أو غداً”.
يذكر أنّ شركة الطاقة الجزائرية “سوناطراك” وقعت اتفاقاً مع شركة “Eni” الإيطالية مطلع شهر نيسان/أبريل، يستهدف زيادة حجم الغاز المصدر من الدولة الواقعة في شمال إفريقيا إلى إيطاليا، مما أثار مخاوف إسبانيا من تأثر إمدادات الغاز الجزائري إليها.
