On Sunday Syrian Foreign Minister Fayṣal al-Miqdād confirms to his Algerian colleague Ramṭān La‘mānara that his country prefers not to put forward the matter of reinstating Damascus’ membership in the Arab League during the next summit.
The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported in a statement that “the Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Diaspora Abroad Ramṭān La‘mānara held a telephone conversation with his Syrian counterpart Fayṣal al-Miqdād”.
The statement pointed out that “summing up the matters that were discussed there was the topic of the relationship of the Syrian Arab Republic with the Arab League, when the head of the Syrian diplomacy confirmed that his country prefers not to put forward the matter of reinstating its active membership in the Arab League during the Algiers Summit”.
The statement added that “this is by Syria’s dedication to contribute to uniting the Arab voice and line facing the challenges that were imposed by current situation on the regional and global levels”.
The two sides also expressed “their expectation that the summit will have constructive results to contribute to improving the atmosphere and strengthening the Arab-Arab relations pushing the joint Arab progress forward”.
La‘mānara had said earlier that day that his country is ready to host the scheduled Arab League Summit in the beginning of November. His statement came as a response to what certain Gulf websites alleged about the possible delay of the next Arab League Summit and that there are reports talking about certain Arab countries are not content with the Algerian moves for a projected Arab inclusivity.
Algerian President ‘Abd al-Mağīd Tabbūn in his previous statements confirmed the continued intention for Syria to be present in the next Arab League Summit scheduled to be held in the beginning of November.
Last month Syrian President Baššār al-Asad received a message from his Algerian counterpart about the current preparations to hold the next scheduled Arab League Summit in Algeria and about the bilateral relations.
On 24 July General Director of the Algerian Foreign Ministry’s communications and information department confirmed to al-Mayadeen that Algeria will once again put forward the invitation for Syria’s participation in the next Arab League Summit in the next meeting of the Arab Foreign Ministers in Cairo in September.

وأفادت وزارة خارجية الجزائر، في بيان، بأنّ “وزير الشؤون الخارجيّة والجالية الوطنية بالخارج رمطان لعمامرة، أجرى اتصالاً هاتفياً مع نظيره السوري، فيصل المقداد”.
وأشار البيان إلى أنّ “من جملة المسائل التي تمت مناقشتها، كان موضوع علاقة الجمهورية العربية السورية بجامعة الدول العربية، حيث أكد رئيس الدبلوماسية السورية أنّ بلاده تفضل عدم طرح موضوع استئناف شغل مقعدها بجامعة الدول العربية خلال قمة الجزائر”.
وأضاف البيان أنّ “ذلك حرصاً من سوريا على المساهمة في توحيد الكلمة والصف العربي في مواجهة التحديات التي تفرضها الأوضاع الراهنة على الصعيدين الإقليمي والدولي”.
كما أعرب الطرفان عن “تطلعهما لأن تكلل القمة بمخرجات بناءة، من شأنها أن تسهم في تنقية الأجواء وتعزيز العلاقات العربية-العربية للدفع قدما بالعمل العربي المشترك”.
وقال لعمامرة، في وقت سابق من اليوم، إنّ بلاده جاهزة لعقد القمة العربية المقررة في الأوّل من تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر المقبل. ويأتي تصريحه رداً على ما نشرته بعض المواقع الخليجية بشأن احتمال تأجيل القمة العربية المقبلة، وعلى تقارير تحدثت عن وجود بعض الدول العربية التي لا تنظر بعين الرضا إلى التحركات الجزائرية في مشروع لمّ الشمل العربي.
وكان الرئيس الجزائري، عبد المجيد تبون، أكد في تصريحات سابقة، مواصلة السعي لتكون سوريا حاضرة في القمة العربية المقبلة، المقرر عقدها أوائل شهر تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر المقبل.
وتسلّم الرئيس السوري بشار الأسد، الشهر الماضي، رسالة من نظيره الجزائري حول التحضيرات الجارية لعقد القمة العربية المقبلة المقررة في الجزائر، والعلاقات الثنائية.
وفي 24 تموز/يوليو، أكد المدير العام للاتصال والإعلام بوزارة الخارجية الجزائرية للميادين أنّ الجزائر ستطرح مجدداً الدعوة إلى مشاركة سوريا في القمة العربية المقبلة، في اجتماع وزراء الخارجية العرب في القاهرة، في أيلول/سبتمبر الجاري
