The appointment of the Crown Prince in Kuwait came three weeks after the decree of the Emir of the country to dismiss the National Assembly and suspend certain articles of the constitution for four years following a political crisis that had led to the a halt in announcing the formation of a government.

Emir of Kuwait aš-Šayh Miš‘al al-Aḥmad al-Ğābir aṣ-Ṣabāḥ issued a royal decree promoting aš-Šayh Ṣabāḥ Hālid aṣ-Ṣabāḥ as Crown Prince after almost six months following his takeover of power in the state.
The KUNA official Kuwaiti news agency mentioned that Article 8 of the royal decree held that President of the cabinet “presented this decree of ours to the council of ministers to take the necessary constitutional measures”, while this royal decree becomes implemented immediately after it’s announced, according to Article 3.

This came after the announcement of the results of the parliamentary elections that were held on 4 April.
Aš-Šayh Ṣabāḥ Hālid (age 71) had held the office of Kuwaiti Prime Minister between 2019 and 2022 during the era of the two late Emirs aš-Šayh Ṣabāḥ al-Aḥmad al-Ğābir aṣ-Ṣabāḥ and aš-Šayh Nawāf al-Aḥmad al-Ğābir aṣ-Ṣabāḥ.
He also held the post of Foreign Minister from 2011 until 2019. The new government in Kuwait saw light in the middle of May, which is the first government under the rule of the new Emir.

أصدر أمير الكويت، الشيخ مشعل الأحمد الجابر الصباح، أمراً أميرياً بتزكية. الشيخ صباح خالد الحمد الصباح، ولياً للعهد، بعد نحو ستة أشهر من توليه حكم البلاد.
وذكرت وكالة الأنباء الكويتية الرسمية “كونا”، أنّ المادة الثانية من الأمر. الأميري، جاء فيها أنه على رئيس مجلس الوزراء “عرض أمرنا هذا على مجلس الوزراء لاتخاذ الإجراءات الدستورية. المناسبة”، على أن يدخل هذا الأمر حيز التنفيذ فور صدوره، وفق المادة الثالثة.
ويأتي تعيين ولي للعهد في الكويت، بعد ثلاثة أسابيع، من قرار أمير البلاد حل مجلس الأمة، ووقف. العمل ببعض مواد الدستور لمدة أربع سنوات، في أعقاب أزمة سياسية أدّت الى تعثر الإعلان عن تشكيلة الحكومة، بعد الإعلان. عن نتائج الانتخابات البرلمانية التي جرت في 4 نيسان/أبريل الماضي.
وكان الشيخ صباح خالد (71 عاماً) قد تولى رئاسة الحكومة الكويتية بين عامي 2019 و2022، في عهدي الأميرين. الراحلين الشيخ صباح الاحمد الجابر الصباح، والشيخ نواف الأحمد الجابر الصباح.
كما تولى منصب وزير الخارجية من العام 2011 حتى العام 2019. وأبصرت حكومة جديدة في الكويت النور، منتصف أيار/مايو الماضي، وهي الحكومة الأولى في عهد الأمير الجديد
