American State Secretary Marco Rubio believes that the transitional authority in Syria might collapse within weeks that might lead to a destructive civil war and the partition of the country.

American State Secretary Marco Rubio warned that Syria might be only weeks away from “a total civil war” in case there is no intervention to support the transitional authority, pointing out the possibility of its collapse that “has became close”, which would bring about catastrophic consequences to the unity of the country and the stability of the region.
Rubio during his testimony to the American Senate on Tuesday after the decision of Trump to lift the sanctions against Syria said: “our assessment is that the transitional authority, honestly, in light of the challenges it faces, might be weeks – not few months – away from a possible collapse and total civil war with destructive consequences, which would effectively lead to the partition of the country”.
He added: “We need to help them. We want this government to succeed, because the alternative is a destructive civil war and chaos, which would naturally lead to the undermining of the stability of the whole region”.
Rubio announced that the administration of American President Donald Trump will start to allow American diplomats residing in Türkiye to work with local officials in Damascus “to outline the support they need”, confirming that the American ambassador in Ankara will also participate in this matter temporarily before handing out a strongly worded warning to the interim Syrian government “about being on the brink of collapse”.
During his speech explaining the American choices, Rubio said: “If we cooperated with them, the matter may succeed, may not succeed. If we don’t work with them, it will surely not succeed”.
This American warning comes days after the meeting between American President Donald Trump and president of the interim period in Syria Aḥmad aš-Śar‘a in Riyadh on 14 May in the first meeting between the presidents of the two countries for 25 years.

حذّر وزير الخارجية الأميركي، ماركو روبيو، من أنّ سوريا قد تكون على بُعد أسابيع فقط. من “حرب أهلية شاملة” في حال عدم التدخّل لدعم السلطة الانتقالية، مشيراً إلى أنّ احتمال انهيارها “بات. قريباً”، ما ينذر بتداعيات كارثية على وحدة البلاد واستقرار المنطقة.
روبيو، وفي إفادته أمام مجلس الشيوخ الأميركي الثلاثاء، بعد قرار ترامب برفع العقوبات. على سوريا، قال: “تقييمنا هو أنّ السلطة الانتقالية، وبصراحة، في ضوء التحدّيات التي تواجهها، قد تكون على بعد أسابيع – وليس. عدة أشهر – من انهيار محتمل وحرب أهلية شاملة ذات أبعاد مدمّرة، تؤدّي فعلياً إلى تقسيم البلاد
وأضاف: “علينا مساعدتهم. نريد لهذه الحكومة النجاح، لأنّ البديل هو حرب أهلية شاملة. وفوضى، مما سيؤدّي بطبيعة الحال إلى زعزعة استقرار المنطقة بأكملها”.
وأعلن روبيو أنّ إدارة الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترامب، ستبدأ بالسماح للدبلوماسيين الأميركيين. المقيمين في تركيا بالعمل مع المسؤولين المحلّيين في دمشق “لتحديد المساعدة التي يحتاجونها”، مؤكداً أنّ. السفير الأميركي لدى أنقرة سيشارك في هذا الأمر أيضاً بشكلٍ مؤقت، قبل أن يُطلق تحذيراً شديد اللّهجة بأنّ الحكومة السورية المؤقّتة “على وشك الانهيار”.
وفي معرض حديثه عن الخيارات الأميركية، قال روبيو: “إذا تعاونا معهم، قد ينجح. الأمر، أو لا ينجح. إذا لم نعمل معهم، فلن ينجح بالتأكيد”.
