The “Rapid Support” Forces in Sudan announced accepting the American proposal for a humanitarian ceasefire.

In a statement on Thursday the “Rapid Support” Forces stated that they “accepted a proposal by the United States for a ceasefire for humanitarian purposes”, without mentioning additional details.

This statement coincides with the Sudanese army intensifying its airstrikes against positions that belong to the “Rapid Support” Forces in the provinces of Central Dārfūr and Northern Kurdufān on Thursday, according to the local media.

The local media mentioned that “Sudanese warplanes bombarded the positions of the Rapid Support Forces in the two provinces while the army expanded its areal attacks to dismantle the fighting infrastructure of the rebel groups”, adding that “in the last few days the Sudanese army intensified its land and areal attacks in an attempt to repel the Rapid Support Forces from those areas that it took control during the last few days”.

The Sudanese Security and Defense Council led by President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council ‘Abd al-Fattāḥ al-Burhān discussed the ceasefire proposal provided by the United States to put an end to the conflict in Sudan. This is according to the “France Press” news agency citing an unnamed governmental source.

The governmental source that asked not to revel his identity revealed that “on Tuesday the Security and Defense Council held a meeting to discuss the American ceasefire proposal”.

This decision comes in a time when the “Rapid Support” Forces are preparing to launch an possible attack against Kurdufān after it took control over the city of al-Fāšir, the last stronghold of the army in Dārfūr roughly two weeks ago.

أعلنت قوات “الدعم السريع” في السودان. موافقتها على مقترح أميركي لوقف إطلاق نار إنساني.

وقالت “الدعم السريع”، في بيان اليوم الخميس، إنها “وافقت على مقترح. من الولايات المتحدة بوقف إطلاق النار لأسباب إنسانية”، من دون ذكر تفاصيل إضافية.

ويتزامن هذا الإعلان، مع تكثيف الجيش السوداني غاراته على مواقع تابعة. لقوات “الدعم السريع” في ولايتي وسط دارفور وشمال كردفان، اليوم الخميس، بحسب ما أفادت وسائل إعلام محلية.

وذكرت وسائل الإعلام المحلية أن “طائرات حربية سودانية قصفت مواقع لقوات. الدعم السريع في الولايتين، في حين وسع الجيش هجومه الجوي لتفكيك البنية القتالية للجماعة المتمردة”، مضيفة أنه “في الأيام الأخيرة، كثف. الجيش السوداني هجماته البرية والجوية في محاولة لطرد قوات الدعم السريع من المناطق التي سيطرت عليها في الأيام الأخيرة”.

وكشف المصدر الحكومي، الذي طلب عدم الكشف عن. هويّته، أن “مجلس الأمن والدفاع عقد اجتماعاً، يوم. الثلاثاء، لبحث مقترح الهدنة الأميركي”.
