The Popular Resistance in the Province of Northern Dārfūr denies that the “Rapid Support” forces would have taken control over the city of al-Fāšir and described the circulating reports as “media misinformation campaign” while the fights go on inside the city.

The Popular Resistance in Northern Dārfūr Province – al-Fāšir issued a statement on Sunday denying in it what was claimed by the media and certain websites that the city would have fallen to the hands of the “Rapid Support Forces” and described what takes place as “media disinformation campaign aiming to cause panic and fear and to weaken the moral of the fighters”.
The Resistance said in the statement: “Al-Fāšir is currently facing scandalous media campaign aiming to cause panic and to break the will of the fighters by considering that the entry to the army corps command means the fall of the city”. It confirmed that “al-Fāšir is the stopping block and the rock at which the conspiracies and the dreams of the militias break”.
The statement came hours after announcement by the “Rapid Support Forces” that they took control over the Army Command Headquarters in the city of al-Fāšir, the last city that is still under the control of the government forces in the Dārfūr region in Western Sudan.
An attack from 5 directions and conflicting informations about the situation on the ground
Activists in Sudan were talking about continuing fights within the city, confirming that the Sudanese Armed Forces repelled the large scale attack launched by the “Rapid Support” Forces from 5 directions. The fights concentrated on the eastern front, where the “Rapid Support” Forces had announced taking control over the building of the 6th Infantry Regiment.
However, eyewitnesses and journalist sources explained that the building from which the “Rapid Support” forces announced taking control is an old and abandoned one that has been changed for months, as the building was close to the fire range of the “Rapid Support” and military blockade by the militias against the city for more than a year.
The informations about the situation on the ground in al-Fāšin are conflicting, as until now there has been no official statement by the Sudanese Army, while in the social media conflicting voice recordings were shared about the fall of the city, or that it still resists.
Long siege and humanitarian collapse
The city of al-Fāšir is under suffocating siege for more than 18 months imposed on it by the “Rapid Support” Forces that are targeting the civilians with repeated attacks by drones and artillery. The siege has caused the spread of famine in the city neighborhoods that still holds 250 thousand inhabitants.
During the last few weeks the “Rapid Support” Forces claimed “allowing the civilians and the fighters surrendering to leave the city”, but those who left al-Fāšir reported acts of horrible vandalism and aggressions and killings by the members of the “Rapid Support” Forces on the road.
The United Nations mission in October said that the “Rapid Support” Forces have committed “numerous crimes against humanity” during their siege against the city.

أصدرت المقاومة الشعبية في ولاية شمال دارفور – الفاشر، اليوم الأحد، بياناً نفت. فيه ما تروّجه وسائل إعلام ومواقع إلكترونية عن سقوط المدينة بيد “قوات الدعم السريع”، ووصفت ما يجري بأنه “حملة إعلامية. مضللة تهدف إلى إثارة الهلع والرعب، وإضعاف الروح المعنوية للمقاتلين”.
وقالت المقاومة في بيانها: “تتعرّض الفاشر في الوقت الراهن إلى حملةٍ إعلامية. مفضوحة هدفها إثارة الهلع والنيل من عزيمة المقاتلين، باعتبار أنّ دخول رئاسة الفرقة يعني سقوط المدينة”، مؤكّدةً. أنّ “الفاشر هي الحاجز والصخرة التي تتفكّك عندها المؤامرات وأحلام الميليشيات”.
ويأتي البيان بعد ساعات من إعلان قوات “الدعم السريع” سيطرتها على. مقرّ قيادة الجيش في مدينة الفاشر، آخر مدينة ما زالت خاضعة لسيطرة القوات الحكومية في. إقليم دارفور غرب السودان.

غير أنّ شهود عيان ومصادر صحافية أوضحوا أنّ المبنى الذي أعلنت. قوات “الدعم السريع” السيطرة عليه قديم ومهجور وتمّ تغييره منذ أشهر، نظراً لقرب المبنى من مرمى نيران “الدعم. السريع” والطوق العسكري المفروض من قبل هذه المليشيات على المدينة منذ أكثر من عام.
وتتضارب المعلومات حول الوضع الميداني في الفاشر، إذ لم يصدر حتى. الآن أيّ بيان رسمي من الجيش السوداني، بينما تنتشر على وسائل التواصل تسجيلات. صوتية متناقضة تتحدّث عن سقوط المدينة أو صمودها
حصار طويل وتدهور إنساني
وتخضع مدينة الفاشر لحصار خانق منذ أكثر من 18 شهراً، فرضته قوات “الدعم. السريع” التي استهدفت المدنيين بهجمات متكرّرة بالطائرات المسيّرة والمدفعية، وتسبّب الحصار في. انتشار المجاعة في أنحاء المدينة التي لا يزال يقطنها 250 ألف نسمة.
