Syrian President Baššār al-Asad on Thursday arrived in China on his first official visit to the country for almost two decades ahead of an official delegation.

In response to the invitation by his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping Syrian President Baššār al-Asad on Thursday arrived in China on his first official visit to the country for almost two decades.

According to the SANA Syrian news agency President al-Asad and President Xi will hold Syrian-Chinese summit meetings and high-level meetings with Chinese officials to address the developments of the bilateral relations between the two countries.

The visit by al-Asad will include a number of meetings and events in the cities of Hangchuo and Beijing. He is accompanied by a political and economic delegation. This is the first visit he takes to

China since 2004. It is expected that he will participate in the office opening ceremony of the Asian Games in Hangchuo on 23 September.

Earlier during a meeting between al-Asad and Chinese special envoy Chay Jun in Damascus the Syrian President had pointed out the Chinese role on the global level, which according to his description “a role that is ascending in the world in a calm and balanced fashion”.

Al-Asad confirmed that Syria will not forget that China stood by it during the war to defend Syrian sovereignty in accordance with international law and the UN Charter. Also, all the help and relief provided by China during the earthquake is also appreciated.

In 2021 Chinese Foreign Minister Vang Yi visited Damascus in an official visit to enhance the cooperation between China and Syria. That was the first visit by a high-level Chinese official since the beginning of the war against Syria.

During the meeting between President al-Asad and Minister Yi it was agreed to head for starting a new period in enhancing the relations and opening wider horizons for the bilateral cooperation in all fields.

The Syrian and the Chinese officials had discussed earlier a number of infrastructural projects in the fields of electricity, mining, transportation, waste, and water management that Syria needs and that form the basis for the “Road and Belt Initiative”. Damascus has also received donations from humanitarian projects supporting the Syrian people in healthcare, education, and other fields.

وصل الرئيس السوري بشار الأسد، اليوم الخميس، إلى الصين في أول زيارة رسمية للبلاد منذ نحو عقدين، تلبية لدعوة من نظيره الصيني شي جين بينغ.

ووفق وكالة الأنباء السورية “سانا”، سيعقد الرئيسان الأسد وشي قمة سورية – صينية واجتماعات على مستويات عالية مع المسؤولين الصينيين لتداول تطوير العلاقات الثنائية بين البلدين

وتشمل زيارة الرئيس الأسد عدداً من اللقاءات والفعاليات في مدينتي خانجو وبكين، ويرافقه في الزيارة وفد سياسي واقتصادي، وهي الزيارة الأولى التي يقوم بها إلى الصين منذ العام 2004. ومن المتوقع أنّ يحضر حفل افتتاح الألعاب الآسيوية في هانغجو في 23 من الشهر الحالي

وفي وقتٍ سابق، خلال لقاء جمع الأسد بالمبعوث الصيني الخاص تشاي جون في دمشق، أشاد الرئيس السوري بالدور الصيني على مستوى العالم، وهو الدور “الذي يتصاعد بصورة هادئة ومتوازنة”، بحسب وصفه.

وأكد الأسد أن سوريا لا تنسى وقوف الصين إلى جانبها خلال الحرب من أجل الدفاع عن السيادة السورية وفق القانون الدولي وميثاق الأمم المتحدة، كما أنها تُقدر كل ما قدمته بكين من مساعدات خلال فترة الزلزال.

وعام 2021، زار وزير الخارجية الصيني وانغ يي دمشق، في زيارة رسمية لتعزيز التعاون بين الصين وسوريا، وكانت تلك الزيارة هي الأولى لمسؤول صينيّ رفيع المستوى منذ بدء الحرب على سوريا.

وتم خلال اللقاء بين الرئيس الأسد والوزير وانغ التوافق على الانطلاق نحو مرحلة جديدة في تعزيز العلاقات وفتح آفاق أوسع للتعاون الثنائي في كل المجالات.

وكان المسؤولون السوريون والصينيون قد ناقشوا سابقاً حزمة من مشاريع البنية التحتية، ولا سيّما في قطاعات الكهرباء والتعدين والنقل والصرف الصحي والمياه التي تحتاج إليها سوريا، والتي تشكّل أرضية لمشروع “حزام وطريق”. كذلك، تلقّي دمشق هبات في مشاريع إنسانية لدعم الشعب السوري في الصّحة والتربية ومجالات أخرى
