The Supreme Military Committee is about to end the mission of the International Coalition in Iraq and continues evacuating the military bases and the headquarters, moving on to a phase of bilateral security relations with the United States.

The Supreme Military Committee announced ending the mission of the International Coalition in Iraq and continuing the evacuation of all military bases and the headquarters in the official federal regions of the country by the advisors of the Coalition for “fighting Dā‘iš”.
He explained that this operation has been fulfilled by the departure of the small numbers that had remained in the “ ‘Ayn al-Asad Air Base” and thus these sites becoming under the full control of the Iraqi security forces.
In a statement on Sunday the Committee also pointed out that this has happened by fulfilling the statement of the Iraqi government issued on 24 September 2024 that had set a timetable to end the duty of the International Military Coalition “to Defeat Dā‘iš Iraq” and to implement the resolutions of the joint statement between Iraq and the United States of America issued on 6 November 2025 about the “future of the bilateral security relations between the two countries”.
In light of all this the Committee has confirmed the preparedness of the Iraqi forces to “provide security all over the homeland” underlining that “Dā‘iš” does not represent a strategic threat anymore and the Iraqi forces are completely capable to prevent their renewed appearance.
The Committee outlined the end of the first phase of the mission of the International Coalition in Iraq in the federal areas and moving on to the bilateral security relations with the United States.
It also added that these relations “will concentrate on implementing the memoranda of understanding about military cooperation and developing the capabilities of the Iraqi Armed Forces in the fields of preparation, armament, training and exercise, and joint operations and trainings to secure their sustainable preparedness and combating the Dā‘iš”.
About the security cooperation, especially concerning the Syrian matter, the committee confirmed starting the second phase of the International Coalition combating “Dā‘iš” in Syria and the cooperation with it will remain about completely eradicating this organization in Syria to secure that these pockets would have no effect on the Iraqi national security.
The committee in this regard further confirmed the role of the International Coalition in Iraq to provide interoperable logistical support in Syria via its presence in the airbase in Erbil.
The Iraqi army will also carry out operations combating Dā‘iš in cooperation with Washington being carried out from the “ ‘Ayn al-Asad airbase” “in case it is necessary”.
