Egyptian President ‘Abd al-Fattāḥ as-Sīsī warns about Ethiopia exploiting the Egyptian water and calls upon Addis Ababa to conduct dialogue and cooperate about the Great Renaissance Dam [GERD].
Egyptian President ‘Abd al-Fattāḥ as-Sīsī confirmed today, on Wednesday that the stance of the Egyptian state about the GERD project was “a proud project, and we respected the desire of the people to obtain some sort of development”.
As-Sīsī added in his speech during the opening ceremony of the “smart products convention” that the condition of development in Egypt is that its interests are not tempered with, “and our words haven’t changed”.
As-Sīsī sent a message to Ethiopia saying: “Don’t take even a drop of water from Egypt… all options are open, but the cooperation is better”.
The Egyptian President warned about some parties continuing to insist to set up investment projects to exploit the international rivers on an unstudied way”.
On its own term, the Ethiopian Foreign Ministry announced its commitment to follow on the second filling the Renaissance Dam next July.
The ministry confirmed in a statement that “the Renaissance Dam will be flooded in a second wave, as it was announced in the initial announcement”.
These statements come after the failure of talks, which were held in Kinshasa about the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. That was because “the political leadership in Ethiopia lacked the goodwill in the negotiations and strived to prolong and steal time”, according to what the official spokesman of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced.

أكد الرئيس المصري عبد الفتاح السيسي، اليوم الأربعاء، أن موقف الدولة المصرية من مشروع سد النهضة كان “موقفاً مشرفاً، واحترمنا رغبة الشعوب في أن يكون لها شكل من أشكال التنمية
وأضاف السيسي، خلال كلمته في افتتاح “مجمع الإصدارات المؤمنة والذكية”، أن شرط التنمية في مصر هو عدم المس بمصالحها “وكلامنا لم يتغير
ووجّه السيسي رسالة إلى إثيوبيا قائلاً: “لا تمسّوا نقطة ماء من مصر.. الخيارات كلها مفتوحة والتعاون أفضل
وحذّر الرئيس المصري من تبعات إصرار بعض الأطراف على إقامة مشروعات عملاقة لاستغلال الأنهار الدولية بنحو غير مدروس
من جهتها، أعلنت وزارة الخارجية الإثيوبية إصرارها على المُضي قُدماً في الملء الثاني لسد النهضة خلال شهر تموز/ يوليو المقبل
وأكدت الوزارة في بيان أنه “سيتم ملء سد النهضة في السنة الثانية، كما هو مقرر وفقاً لإعلان المبادئ
وتأتي هذه التصريحات بعد فشل المفاوضات التي عقدت في كينشاسا حول سد النهضة الإثيوبي، وذلك بسبب “غياب الإرادة السياسية لدى إثيوبيا للتفاوض بحسن نيّة وسعيها للمماطلة والتسويف”، وفق ما صرّح المتحدث باسم وزارة الخارجية المصرية
