In Libya amidst celebrations with shooting in the air and warm welcome by his fighters Commander of the 444th Battalion Maḥmūd Ḥamza is released after two days of fierce clashes that left behind 55 dead and 146 injured .
In Libya Commander of the 444th Battalion Maḥmūd Ḥamza was released in Wednesday after his arrest ignited the fiercest clashes for years in the Libyan capital Tripoli that caused the dead of 55 people and injured 146.
The Special Deterrence Force detained Ḥamza on Monday as he tried to travel through the Ma‘ytīqa airport that is controlled by the same force in Tripoli.
Within an agreement that was mediated by the sheikhs of the city Ḥamza was released to the Third Corp, which is a stability support service and that released Ḥamza to the Battalion in late Wednesday.
Pictures were posted on the social media about the release of Ḥamza under military escort and he was welcomed at his return. Members of the battalion fired shots in the air on Wednesday night after news came out about his release.
The fighting between the Special Deterrence Force and the 444th Battalion broke out in the districts of the capital Tripoli on late Monday after Ḥamza had been detained.

The Emergency Medical Center and Support Force announced on Wednesday the number of the dead and injured after the clashes concentrated to the southern regions of the Libyan capital Tripoli, especially to the areas of ‘Ayn Zāra, Ṣalāḥ ad-Dīn, the aš-Šawk highway, the as-Sidra highway and parts of the al-Hilla district in the south of the capital.
Also the airline companies that on Tuesday stopped using the Ma‘ytīqa airport that laid next to the fiercest clashes that they continued the journeys in Wednesday.
Within the agreement that was mediated by the sheikhs of the city the police and the other security forces that remained neutral during the clashes got deployed to the regions where the clashes went on.
The fierce clashes broke out on Monday night between the “Special Deterrence Service” and the “444th Battalion” that both belong to the “National Unity Government” that set up its headquarters in Tripoli.
The clashes rolled around the areas of ‘Ayn Zāra, the aš-Šawk highway and the Green Field in the Libyan capital after the Deterrence Force arrested the commander of the 444th Battalion Colonel Maḥmūd Ḥamza, yet no official information was released about the reasons for his arrest.
During the clashes both sides used heavy weapons of all sorts, which led to the suspension of the areal flights at the main civilian airport.
Libya is witnessing an overall chaos since the fall of the government of Mu‘ammar al-Qaddāfī in 2011 and two governments are competing with each other. The first one controls the west of the country with Tripoli as its center led by ad-Dabība. This one was formed following the political dialogue in early 2021. The other controls the east of the country led by Usāma Ḥammād. This one was set up by the Council of Representatives supported by Field Marshal Halīfa Ḥaftar.

إطلاق سراح قائد اللواء 444 في ليبيا، محمود حمزة، بعد يومين من الاشتباكات العنيفة التي راح ضحيتها 55 قتيلاً و146 جريحاً، وسط احتفالات تخللها إطلاق نار ومفرقعات من مناصريه
أُطلق سراح قائد اللواء 444 في ليبيا محمود حمزة، أمس الأربعاء، بعدما أشعل احتجازه فتيل أعنف اشتباكات منذ سنوات في العاصمة الليبية طرابلس، أسفرت عن مقتل 55 شخصاً وإصابة 146.
وكانت قوة الردع الخاصة قد احتجزت حمزة يوم الاثنين، لدى محاولته السفر عبر مطار معيتيقة الذي تسيطر عليه القوة نفسها في طرابلس.
وبموجب اتفاق توسط فيه شيوخ المدينة، سُلم حمزة إلى فصيل ثالث هو جهاز دعم الاستقرار، الذي سلّم بدوره حمزة إلى اللواء في وقت متأخر الأربعاء.
وأظهرت صور انتشرت في وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي خروج حمزة بزيه العسكري واستقباله عند عودته. وأطلق أعضاء اللواء طلقات نارية في الهواء مساء أمس الأربعاء، بعد تداول الأنباء عن إطلاق سراحه.
واندلع القتال بين قوة الردع الخاصة واللواء 444 في أنحاء العاصمة طرابلس في وقت متأخر من يوم الاثنين بعد احتجاز حمزة
وأعلن مركز طب الطوارئ والدعم الأربعاء أعداد القتلى والمصابين، بعدما تركزت الاشتباكات في مناطق جنوبي العاصمة الليبية طرابلس، وخصوصاً في أحياء عين زارة وصلاح الدين وطريق الشوك وطريق السدرة، إلى جانب أجزاء من منطقة الخلة جنوب العاصمة.
كذلك، أعلنت شركات الطيران التي أوقفت الثلاثاء استخدام مطار معيتيقة الذي شهد جانباً من أعنف الاشتباكات أنها استأنفت رحلاتها الأربعاء.
وبموجب الاتفاق الذي أعلنه شيوخ المدينة، انتقلت الشرطة وقوات أمن أخرى ظلت على الحياد خلال الاشتباكات إلى المناطق التي دار فيها القتال.
واندلعت اشتباكات عنيفة، مساء الإثنين بين “قوات جهاز الردع” و”اللواء 444″، المحسوبين على “حكومة الوحدة الوطنية” التي تتخذ من طرابلس مقرّاً لها.
وجرت الاشتباكات في مناطق عين زارة و طريق الشوك والهضبة الخضراء في العاصمة الليبية، إثر قيام قوة الردع باعتقال آمر اللواء 444 العقيد محمود حمزة، ولم ترد أي معلومات رسمية عن أسباب اعتقاله.
واستخدم الطرفان في الاشتباكات السلاح الثقيل بجميع أنواعه، ما تسبب بتعليق الرحلات الجوية إلى مطار المدينة الرئيسي.
